Greetings everyone. I hope to get assistance or suggestions regarding a headlight issue in certain Gen 3 Prius models. My passenger-side headlight recently burned out on my 2010 Prius (purchased about a year ago). The previous owner installed LEDs, a common fix for frequently burning out bulbs. I found what I believe were the same bulbs on Amazon, but they burned out in less than a day. Now I'm thinking the issue lies somewhere in the harness. Should I just replace the H11 connector, which appears okay, showing no signs of burns or looseness, or should I take the time to remove the front bumper one day and check the entire harness? If so, how do I go about it without opening all of the harness? Could it be a fuse? Any suggestions or feedback will be appreciated.
Check if the vehicle had the headlight recall performed. If not, get it done. The voltage will be adjusted for the recall so it doesn’t put out voltage higher than most headlamp operating voltage.
The Toyota halogen tsb for 2010-11 models is no longer free. It simply spliced in extra wire length to reduce battery voltage, dim the halogen bulb slightly but extend their life. I would get some Lasfit H11 LEDs low beams and call it a day. They can take the voltage and have a good beam pattern to avoid blinding traffic. The bright halogens say right on the box they last 1/8 of the time as the factory Basic halogens.
I installed AC HID ballasts and bulbs over 10 years ago, our 2011 never had the harness recall work done. HID ballasts can take a very wide range of voltage, so the chances of higher voltage to the ballast through the OEM H11 connector causing damage is very low. Good quality HID bulbs last over 5 years.
