Fairly generic article on RAV4HV batt replacement cost. Says we have 10yr/150mi warranty but I an thinking my 2020 has 8/100. Would be interesting to see NiMH vs. Li batt replacement cost. Our 2020 was NiMH but after that most were Li. Talking about refurbish batt. There was a bigger problem some were having with salt corrosion of the HV wiring ...not sure update on that.

10-year warranty runs to carb states. All others 8. Sort of fortunately, ours needed replacing within 8 years - even though we purchased originally in a carb state. You move, you lose.

My 2025 Camry in a non-CARB state has a 10 year 150K mile warranty on the Hybrid battery.

Notice the article incorrectly says the current models have NiMH batteries. It Toyota using that in any of their hybrids currently?

My warranty manual does not list a different battery warranty for CARB states.
Emission warranty is 2 year 24K with some parts at 8 year 80K.
CARB emission warranty is 3 year 50K mile with 7 year 70K on some parts.

Even though Virginia left CARB at the end of 2024, my booklet says Virginia is CARB. I was mistaken in my earlier post.

Toyota started a 10yr/150k mile warranty everywhere a few years ago.

When the Rav4h was using NiMH, it got a Li-ion pack for half a year. The packs are the same usable capacity. Using one or the other might just mean flipping a switch in the software.

The Gen 4 Prius had both types of battery depending on trim level. I have not heard if they were interchangeable. My 2017 Prius Two was NiMH.

So when we realized our then new 21 Pacifica hybrid was a giant POS and local and area Stellantis dealerships didn't have a clue about hybrids in general and the Pachy in particular, I started quickly looking for a replacement. The then new 21 Sienna came with a reliable and cheaper NiMh pack and 10/150k warranty (even non-carb states) with service to back it up. Got a pearl white limited FTW.

Although we didn't lose money due to market conditions at the time, it was painful lesson in spec sheet shopping and not enough due diligence on real world data. Signs.

At times it seems manufacturers purposely hide information many customers or potential customers want.

My 2020 RAV4HV is NiMH ...car made in Japan I think. But about that time, I think Toyota Canada (up there near Sarnia) started making making the HV version and I think they used Li batts, so there is a mix on 2020s I am thinking.

Would actually cost Toyota more to not have them be interchangeable. The usable capacity between the two being near the same means the hybrid system programing needs less changes to work with the two. A larger Li-ion pack would fit in the space made for the NiMH, and improve the efficiency numbers.
