Hello, I have 2012 Prius Plug in I create new key via Techstream software, but i wasnt make a new metal key, everything was good and it was happy days. and then I lost original metal key. now I open Driver side door lock to find keycode of metalic key, But it was not there. is anyone know where is the keycode of metalic door key in 2012 Prius ?
I believe you have to open the door and there's either a special hole in the door frame or you take out a plug and you undo a threaded fitting and then the key part of your door handle will pull out if it's not like my generation too then you have to take the door panel off and you're taking the door lock cylinder out of the door and off of the handle from inside of the door frame of the car where the speakers are and the electric wiring and all that and when you withdraw the lock cylinder and have it in your hand you will see tiny little numbers on the lock cylinder I believe it's a four number code 3246 whatever it is that's the code that the locksmith needs and he'll have your key waiting when you arrive I do this all the time for the '04 to '09 for the 2010 to 16 or 15 I am not sure whether your handles disassemble on the car like mine in the earlier model If not then it's like a Corolla You take the door skin internally off and reach up inside of there with a 10 mm socket and a short extension and a handle and you remove the door handle this gives you access to the silver key cylinder with the numbers on it apparently if you're in the same market where the car was sold sometimes you can go to the dealer with your VIN number and your paperwork and they can figure out what that door lock code is without touching the car I'm not sure that a locksmith has this information but the dealer does The locksmith may actually have to get the door cylinder out of the handle to get the numbers to cut the key The dealer with proof may be able to do it with a VIN number but they charge you for that so it just depends on the route you want to go who cares about the key? I've never used mine yet unless I want to I haven't had to when I buy a new to me 04 to '09 that's one of the first tests I make I pulled the key out of the remote and make sure it works the driver door If it doesn't I know the key fob is probably a reprogrammed replacement that didn't go to the car and that's why the key doesn't work now I tell the guy well you need to knock $500 off for that and on to the next part of the list.
Thanks for replay. I really appreciate that. it was the stuation for me. There was special hole side of the driver door. I open it and push the lock cylinder out. now I have lock cylinder. there is some numbers, but for sure not Keycode I try everynumner on cylinder with Instacode Software but no result, even I try with Xhorse Dolphin 005 software, still no result. is that any guys out there maybe someone selling Keycode if you provide VIN number to them ? I ordered TOY48 Lishi Tool from aliexpres, When it arrived, i will try to figure it out with reverse coding
@Tombukt2 are you essentially saying change the lock cylinder? It comes with matching key? That sounds sensible, and dealership parts department should be able to confirm.
I would contact a Toyota dealer. They have coding information for each car. Confirm that it is your car and they will provide the information to make a key.
Thanks for replay. Yes it is best way but how much it will cost ? I can do same thing with lishi tool i hope Or some online guys selling key codes, but couldnt find any of them yet. Do u know any of these guys selling key codes for VIN number ? Otherwise i will wait 1-2 weeks and try to do it via lishi tool.
I didn't read the whole thing either, but he might just have been suggesting to read the code off the cylinder that's there and then get the key cut.
Yeah, in my notes: Key code tag: nnnnn (metal tag?)<<<<metal tag in Rose Tin key fob battery: Panasonic (or Energizer) CR 1632 (3 Volt) paint code: IF7 (Classic Silver Metallic)
I agree with Max, the dealer can look it up. I bought one from them for $35. There is a guy on ebay who will make one from a photo. Of course you need to have one first for this scenario.
That nnnnn wasn't your key code, was it? If it was, you can buy a new cylinder at the dealer that will have different bitting and two matching keys.... Just put the new metal tag in the rose tin.
