I've heard of plans over the years for Toyota to move some of its vehicle production to the USA, and I'm aware that a number of different models of Toyota are now made there. But what about the 2025 Prius? Is it 100% made in Japan? Or are various components like engines made elsewhere and shipped to Japan for assembly?

Parts and pieces are sourced from all over the world. Some models are assembled here in the states, Canada, and possibly Mexico. IMHO, anyway you slice it, cost are going to go up - therefore prices will go up.

August 2024. One nodel they recommend for a Us made car is the Camry Solara LOL It was discontinued in 2998 do that article's data is suspect.
The VON info is likely correct. My 2025 Camry, assembled at TMMK, starts with a 4 in the VIN.

I remember that time you offered to let them assemble Toyotas at your place... I still don't understand why they didn't take that offer seriously? Boston is a lovely place to run an assembly line!

Statistically speaking, that's actually much faster than their non-China global EV agenda of the past 20 years...

I must have been dreaming. I thought Tesla alone produced more that one EV per year. (or more than 20 over the last 20 years)

Ford and GM were doing over 20k per quarter in the US.
Globally, VW and Mercedes sold over 200k, and BMW over 300k.
Then there is all those Chinese brands.

Can't judge world status of EVs from the US market. We are lucky to get models after a company's production meets China and Europe.

True, but the US is part of the mentioned non-China global agenda. That was my point.

Only Toyota has a non-China agenda of selling as little EVs as possible was mine. The others aren't selling Tesla levels now, but production, choices, and sales are growing.

We were talking about the Toyota factory that Bisco offered to build on his property and that's how many vehicles he can commit to provide each year.

Meanwhile, BYD has become better than Tesla, so of course that means BYD's affordable Sodium-Ion EVs are deemed a "national security risk" and banned because Elon Musk is determined to defend Teslas market share with government bribes and fascism.

I'm not sure it's working. I used to want a Tesla, but now that it's become such a political symbol, I would not drive one. But maybe that's just me.

In other news, I've learned the Prius PHEV is made in Tsutsume, Japan. I was not able to get a percentage figure for parts made elsewhere.

BYD has a captive market. Tesla does not.

Window stickers here will the foreign vs domestic content, at least.
I figure a car assembled in Japan will mostly have parts from the Asian region. The tsunami lead to part shortages for Toyota's domestic factories.

The Chinese market favoring domestic brands is a recent thing. Imports were preferred when their car market started growing.

    BYD is a global brand.

That's after Tesla cut the prices on the Model 3 and Y by around $5000.
