looks like someone has thought of a niche product.

The stock light is so poor, I'd probably be willing to pay that much for a plug-and-play solution like that, but the placement is godawful(I realize they are stuck using an existing removable panel to make a clean install, but still...)

Not only is your body going to block the light as soon as you move close to grab anything, but there's a real chance the LEDs are going to be hit repeatedly by any shifting cargo when the car's in motion. When the hatch is closed, those lights are going to be at or near the level of the cargo floor.

I'm hoping someone eventually comes up with a better solution.

I think I'll just put a little flashlight back there.

 

That one appears to be a brighter, drop-in replacement for the dim cargo light that comes installed. $15 + shipping.

Where does the other light install?

 

I bought this from Japan and installed it a few days ago. It's so much brighter compared to the stock one. It's plug-and-play with a switch.

 

If the switch is set to on, does it light when the hatch is opened and turn off when closed? (like the OEM).

 

When you switch on, the light is on when you open the trunk and shut off when you close the trunk. When you switch it off, it will forever be off even if you open your trunk.

didn’t try. Someone on FB tried another one from Ali and said it fits. Just got my seat covers so working on that. Here’s the link.

 

Here’s a screen shot. If you’re not on that group. I kind of actually changed my mine on it and prefer the dim light. I had a super bright light in my last car. Really impressive when I pop the trunk but due to the relative brightness, as I move stuff around, anything in the shadow becomes completely dark. It was kind of annoying.
