I don't think you're description of what you're trying to say is adequate. For example if the Hybrid battery is dead, you are not going anywhere - if the system throws a code for high voltage system failure. If by dead you simply mean no more bars showing, it's still not dead ... as there is a buffer that never gets used that you can't see on your display. .
Unfortunately, no. The hybrid battery spins the engine for startup. Along with the tranny motors, they act like the 12 volt and starter motor in a gasser
Yes this is what i am asking. Just the way other Gen doesn't work once battery is dead. By dead i mean no more juice in it. I was hoping there would be a time the Combustion engine would work without the Hybrid battery.
If you have a few hundred thousand miles and well over a decade on a Gen 5 you may have lost 70% capacity but it will still be enough Juice to spool the system up. Of course you will be getting much worse mileage because you're lugging around hundreds of pounds of battery & get worse mpg - but still truckin'. Reminds me of the original Honda hybrid. They program to overuse the batteries, so they died pretty darn quick. Class action lawsuit being the result.
Hey, I owned one of those. Never saw the 50 mpg advertised; best I could do was 45 mpg across the flat valley floor. Killed the battery around 70K miles, and it was replace under warranty. The software 'fix', kicked my average mpg down to 43 mpg. It would average a solid 40 mpg, while I flogged it - since it couldn't get out of it's own way. Traded it for a Prius C and never looked back.
It would take a lot to start the zombie apocalypse too. Yet some people have a Yr's supply o' food & 1,000s of rounds of ammo for each family member. Folks stress over different things .
Um, no, that will never happen. A dead hybrid battery can happen if the car is exposed to salt air for many months.
The older Honda hybrids were just mild systems, and Honda left the standard starter on the ICE just in case. I don't think any full hybrid system can run without the traction pack. In theory, a series hybrid could once you got the engine running, but the software on available models likely prevents. Maybe a limp mode is possible. Besides the starting the engine issue, the electric and ICE drivetrains are integrated to the point that the ICE alone can't work, or the operation of the drive train will be rough and possibly damaging.
