Have a Sony xav-3600 and SWC worked fine, but now they act like there all depressed. Turn radio on, turn up volume, it automatically goes down! I can buy the rubber covers but has anybody had this happen, and what dit it turn out to be?
The original headunit does have a switch-status diagnostic screen where you can see just what buttons it thinks are pushed and when, and that can help a lot in tracking down what's going on in a situation like this. Of course I know nothing about the aftermarket unit you've got, but maybe it has a similar screen you can pull up some way.
Original unit did not have (or did not reveal it self re) status of buttons pushed. I can't imagine the clock spring went bad (2012 Prius with 90k miles) but it is 12/13 years old. Do they get gunked up or broken at that age/mileage? Doesn't look too bad to change, I will order one and get to it! Thanks, hopefully this will fix it and I report back.
When I think of the gen 3 headunits, I think of the touchscreen ones, which have a pretty extensive selection of diagnostic screens once you know the magic gestures to get into them. But I tend to forget that gen 3 also had non-nav headunits with a couple lines of text display instead of a whole screen. I believe those also have diagnostic modes that are described in the repair manual, but much more terse and cryptic and I never memorized how to enter and use them. But I guess the most interesting question right now is, does your aftermarket head unit have any such screens?
