In my Gen 3 2012 Prius, I had a paper towel roll in the back, and one day, I noticed that a mouse had begun to make a nest out of it. The Prius is quite well sealed from the outside, but there is a plastic vent panel with small slots in it, I assume for ventilation. A mouse had managed to gnaw through it, just enough to squeeze through. I suppose that panel should have been made of metal. I cemented a metal mesh from a window over it, and that seemed to do the trick.

You’re talking about the vents in the rear corners, below hatch floor?

Not below any floor as I recall, but accessible from inside the rear space. It was a pop-out panel made of some sort of hard plastic.

Take a picture? AFAIK the only openings near the rear are the two exhaust grills. They have little flaps. Most effective way to screen I found was taking the rear bumper off, putting anti rodent mesh on the outside.

The usual place they come in is the cabin air intake, on the firewall behind glove box. Maybe pull the glove box and check for evidence, seeds and junk on the air filter.

I made a post a couple of years ago on how I pried out the plastic exhaust vents from the outside and fastened screens onto them before putting them back in place.
