I’ve seen several FB posts stating some Gen 5 Prius owners are finding blistered paint/rust spots on the floor of their cargo area. Looks like the surface wasn’t prepped properly maybe? Might be a good idea to check this on your car. One guy said dealership took his car to their autobody shop to get it repaired. I’ve attached photos.

In the mean time I’m trying to diagnose the leak in my Gen 2 which I just posted on an old Gen 2 thread. : \

I'm blessed to live in a dry climate, where such rust is rare.

You are fortunate but it should be non existent in any location on a brand new car, shouldn’t it?

This is NOT rust this is weld spatter. This can happen when weld tips are dirty, misaligned etc. The car will go thru a dunk tank call ED to clean the car before paint. The orange rust colour you see could caused by the ED & oils that are used before it goes into the tank before paint causing it to stick and not come off. The area this is in is not something that could be deemed a defect as it’s not in an area that MOST people would see/worry about or they thought it would be covered up by the black rubbery stuff you see there (that is a sound deadening) adhesive to give it a thunk instead of a tink

My 2022 Lexus also has this. Without removing the spare tire this is what I could see

I noticed this phenomenon on my gen5 as well — appears to be more of a discoloration/build-up of coating than rust. So your explanation makes sense to me
