    Good afternoon everyone!!!

So I did a search here and didn't find any posts about booster failure on a 2016 v. I did see some posts that had TSB that mentioned some 2015's, but nothing about 2016.

I have notice on our 2016 v Trim 5 with 105K miles, that about every 20-30 seconds it sounds like the booster pump is running. This is while moving and/or parked. No lights on the dash, no noticeable braking issues.

Also did see a post about TechStream w/cable on eBay for $20 and not sure if it's worth it to maybe "see" what's going on and not have to pay Dealership a diag fee.

Anywho.... starting to ramble... Any ideas/help would be appreciated!!! :)

Sounds like it's on its way out, with a little time still. Are you thinking to DIY? I wonder if it'd be possible (and worthwhile), to source and install replacement components yourself, then limp it down to dealership for Techstream brake bleed? Or if they'd even be ok with that.

Eventually it will run too long (several minutes) and code. Unless it just fails suddenly which is more common. You still have limited brakes at that point with no power assist and extended stopping distance.

But it could stay as is for months or even years, it is a crap shoot. Even if the brake booster was still covered by warranty or a customer support program, Toyota would not help unless it coded first. The support program is still in place for covered cars for 10 years or 150,000 miles. The last update I saw was dated 2020 and covered were 2012-15 v's.

Thank you both for the replies!!!! :)

Yeah I guess I'll keep a listen out to see if it gets worse. Since this is our "daily" I'll probably get the Dealership to do it. I'm sure it's not cheap but don't know. I do have some rapport with a Service Tech at the Dealership so maybe I can take the TSB and see if they can talk to Toyota or something. Cant hurt... :) Hence my question if there have been reports of this happening on 2016's.

No chance of help until it codes.

Good find. Stored for future use. Now I wonder if the late 2016s and the 2017 v's will also get brake booster coverage in another year.

It interesting Toyota can deny the claim if they think you were advertising / marketing the program.

You will know when it codes; the dash will light up like a Christmas tree.

Yeah I find the number of vehicles covered (13,100) kinda low, but then I don't know what the production numbers were. Also said letters were sent out but I don't remember getting one. (it's hell get'n old.. ha). So I even wonder if it's limited to certain VIN numbers. I'll have to go pull manufacture date / in service date from Toyota site.

Oh as per line A3a in the Q&A section:
"Certain 2017 MY Prius V vehicles are covered for this condition under Customer Support Program 23TE06". I attached it... :)

Hmmm.... Maybe that pertains to the Dealer if they advertise/market "the program" and file claims to get the $ as opposed to the customer initiating the "repair/claim"... Just a thought....

Yeah but was just curious if any of those codes would be in there even thought there are no lights.. YET...

Oh and I can make the pump run also continuously by sitting at a red light with my foot on the break and "pump" them... So are there any "leaks" associated with this issue? Would I see any brake fluid? Or need to keep eye on fluid level?

Thanks again for all the "wisdom"!!!!

With the codes and assuming your car is under 150,000 miles you will get a new brake booster system free.

Many gen3s run the pump a lot but don't code for months or years. When it codes you will know it with many dash lights illuminated.

    Yes sir... has 106,000...

    So pulled some dates....
    Order date: 12/2015
    Date of First Use: 9/8/2016

So have about 44k miles left or 9/8/2026... I"m sure the milage will be reached first...

So have a bigger decision. Keep it and hope Brake Booster can be fixed under the program and none of the other "known issues" pop up... ( I can hear Mr Jones now, unload it... ha)

Or trade it in if it becomes evident that we'll miss the program and cut losses on that and any other "known issues".

You plan to drive 44k in the next 21 months?

I would keep the miles under 150k until Sept 2026.

Most of the other expensive problems typically start around 150k.

Your refreshed v model was sold through 2021 in Asia and Europe with a decent reputation.
