Where is the 2025 Prius?

    On October 26, 2023, the Toyota YouTube channel released a 2024 Toyota Prius Overview. See attached screenshot.

    Almost 14 months later they have not officially announced the 2025 Prius.

    I know there was some news from Car and Driver (link below) about a new color option that also said, “The Prius is otherwise unchanged for 2025.”

    Once again, these delays are disappointing. Three model years in a row offering the same car. Not good.

    Toyota should be honest and call it the 2024-2025 Toyota Prius. Move to the two-year cycle.

    Unless they decide to discontinue the HEV and only keep the already-announced PHEV, it should go on production on January 2 and arrive to the US in February, with the official announcement sometime in January. The only change would be the addition of the nightshade-edition trim.

    I think the announcement will be Tuesday. Maybe even tomorrow so they can get it out before Christmas Eve.

    There was a time when it seemed the 5th gen Prius wasn't going to happen and the Prius was going to be discontinued. And while that didn't happen for 5th gen, it seems pretty clear that there won't be a 6th gen Prius.

    Back when oil was way over $100 a barrel and Toyota was winning big with Prius, the tiny tweaks and changes each year was part of a robust marketing campaign and at their peak they were close to selling 25K Prius a month.

    Seems that the lack of enthusiasm in sales numbers, that they only have themselves to blame for, has made this a car that's more of the past than of the future.

    Many auto manufacturers have taken a bath with their premature all-out push for EVs. They did it mostly for politics, ignoring their inexperience with EV technology and the critical lack of charging infrastructure.

    Toyota took the realistic business model approach by using their leadership with hybrids as a smart bridge to an EV future.

    Prius should have been a major marketing tool, with maximum gas mileage the major emphasis. Instead, Toyota went for looks, perhaps while tempted by Tesla-envy.

    I understand it might not make sense to keep engineers and designers working on Prius and Corolla hybrid. But that’s only because Toyota made a bad decision and failed to recognize why people love Prius- mileage and range.

    I hope they will not give up and surprise us with a major mid-cycle refresh and upgrade.

    You're so delusional... All the automakers choose to ramp up EV production due to customer demand thanks to Teslas peak moment of market value. That was not politics at all. It was automakers chasing an investment that turned out to be too good to be true.

    Problem is EVs are still expensive to manufacture and market saturation for people wealthy enough to buy them hit super fast and BYD is the only automaker that has figured out how to make EVs most everyone can afford, which got them pre-emptively banned from the US market.

    Meanwhile, Toyota chose politics and supporting the fossil fool arguments because they were over-invested in 3rd party parts manufacturing for ICE and Hybrid vehicles and choose to be a decade behind their competitors rather than investing in re-tooling their factories, which has led to their main EV outside of China in the BZ4X being a laughing stock of automotive engineers that has only been on the market for two years while all the other auto makers, may be in debt for EV, but they've reiterated on their EVs for triple and sometime more than quadruple the amount of years Toyota has been pedaling their near rookie garbage.

    Even in the earlier generations, the Prius wasn't about maximum gas mileage. It still had airbags, power steering, AC, a radio....all added weight that also made it a car people wouldn't mind being in, and it came at a price that didn't put it out of reach. It never was a VW XL1.

    If a car doesn't need to be ugly, is there a good reason to make it ugly?

    I'm not seeing a lot of car buyers who wanted to get a Prius, but didn't want to spring for all the gas it would swill, or people complaining that the tank runs dry after 600 miles.

    Isn't Toyota on a six or seven year cycle for most models? I gather that the only real change for 2025 is a color for one trim.

    I disagree....I DON'T want Toyota to come out with new Generations of vehicles every few years but want them to wait even longer before releasing the "new"

    We have two Prius (2017/2021) in the family and LOVE them but would never buy the new model for a lot of reasons.

    Why? Because of the issues and recalls and production-stoppages with the new Generations. Gosh, 10-years ago, any Toyota generation that was 2-3 years old were pretty much bulletproof...look at their trucks and sedans from that time!

    Today, I won't buy a Toyota until it's at LEAST 4-years old on the current generation and, with the Tundra's and Tacoma's, might wait even longer. (Might not ever look at a new Tacoma since they are built in Mexico...really, Toyota??) I'm not racist but Mexican stuff is NOT known for quality and reliability (like my GE refrigerator that started having issues after just a few years, made in Mexico)

    That the 2025 model year prius isn't rolled out until almost 2025 seems the least weird part of a car that was initially so hard to find that it was almost vaporware, then dealer markups, had weird tire sizes, and door locks not immune to rain.

    It's not that big of a deal. Everyone has blown the door latch issue out of proportion. The automatic lock while driving feature negates the issue until it could be fixed.

    A little electronic part in the door wasn't epoxied to be water tight. The fix itself takes practically no time. 3-4 screws and like 3 bolts per side, then you swap the small mechanism for each rear door. It's the work equivalent of changing the speaker in your car door.

    Why are you even in the gen5 discussion if you don't have one and don't plan on getting one?
