This is on a 2006 Prius with about 260K miles.

I just started getting intermittent ABS brake dash lights (Brake, !, ABS, VSC). Connecting pins 4 & 13 of the OBD II port I get:

    ! 36, ABS 34 95, VSC 43, 62 & 63 ! = ECB?

Using this and a few comments I found ......
    https://attachments.priuschat.com/attachment-files/2024/08/255782_2006_PRIUS_RM_-_Blink_Codes_ABS_VTC_ECB.pdf

ABS 34: Rear Speed Sensor LH Circuit:
    - Left rear speed sensor
    - Speed sensor circuit
    - Sensor rotor
    - Sensor installation

((!)) light: 36: just means there are also codes on the ABS light, go look at those.

VSC (skiddy-car) light: 43: just means there are also codes on the ABS light, go look at those.

I don't have any info on: ABS 95 & VSC 62 & 63. Is there a more comprehensive list of brake code problems somewhere??
    ------------------------------

We had a wet spell followed by a freezing spell. The morning of the first error (1st just the slippery light briefly flashing for no reason and then all those dash lights mentioned above) my tires were stuck to the ground, so it took a bit more to backup out of the garage. My initial thinking is that there was some ice stuck around the front LH sensor causing this error. I did have my front LH/driver wheel bearing replaced this past late spring (& the other side at least a year before that). I stopped at the local auto store, though the lights had gone off by then. They said they can't read out any brake codes especially if the lights are not on. I figured out the pn shorting thing back home later. After about 4 more trips in the car now, this symptom has occurred and shut off about 4 times, power cycling seems to "clear" the dash lights too but sometimes it just goes off on it's own. I do have a techstream setup in a simulator window. I have only used it a little to figure out how I will turn on my alarm on my newer '15 Prius once I do that next spring. i'm not to keen on playing with it in the cold weather.

A cheap Innova 3100 scanner which you can buy online for like $30 will read your ABS codes pretty well I have this exact scanner I also have the AP200 which will bleed the brakes and do a bunch of other stuff which if you get on it quickly you can still buy one before there's no more left they've been discontinued and there's no replacement that I know of that will go a long way in helping you You're at the right mileage for the break actuator assembly to be going south obviously if you have wheel speed sensor codes you should look at those wheel speed centers make sure nothing's ripped out of their sockets You can undo the little 10 mm bolt and pull the sensors out in the front Make sure they're clean is not a bunch of metal stuck to the tip it's magnetic wipe it off with the rag with some WD-40 on it or something. And make certain everything looks connected and is okay usually it will speed sensor will be ripped out of its socket or something in the wires dangling it'll be obvious and yes they can go bad not super common and I think they can be tested with a regular DVOM or a test meter. Should be plenty of YouTube video showing where to put the probes things like that. But all of the three or four of these that I generally have here in the parking lot all have had their break actuators usually I'm using used ones one or two I've had to do twice I can do it now in about 2 hours and 20 minutes and that pretty much includes the bleeding and good luck.

Looking in a gen 3 repair manual, ABS 95 in gen 3 is U0124, lost communication with lateral acceleration sensor module. VSC 62 and 63 are U0123 and U0126, respectively: lost communication with yaw rate sensor module, and lost communication with steering angle sensor module.

Normally, I'd advise against looking stuff up in the wrong generation's repair manual, but this isn't the first time for finding blink codes in the gen 3 manual not found in gen 2's. (That's also how the "go look at those" codes like ((!)) 36 and VSC 43 were found. It seems like those got overlooked in putting the gen 2 manual together because they don't have corresponding DTCs, and these others may have been overlooked in the ABS/ECB/VSC tables because U communication codes were put somewhere else.)

I might suggest looking in a gen 2 repair manual's "multiplex communication" section to see if those U codes turn up there.

Will the Innova 3100 scanner decipher the ABS codes as well?

It'll give you the codes which I think will be body codes so they may be B instead of p and then underneath the code itself like for instance PO420 underneath that and smaller text it will read catalyst below threshold that's the meaning of that code it'll do the same thing for the ABS codes once you push the ABS button to read the ABS specific code that's on the scanner If you're going to spend $35 or something like that rounding up the 3100 you should just spend the $63 and buy the AP200 because when you have to do the brakes or the actuator the AP200 can bleed the brakes as well as some other services that people usually pay 300 plus dollars for a scanner that's that capable so that's a smoking deal for $64 the AP200 and being able to do those things without having to pay a service center which will cost you $200 or so each time you have to do each thing linear valve offset bleeding the brakes and so on It's a very quickly that $64 tool is paid for itself the first time you put it in your hand and plug it in the car You may want to consider it.

May I ask is your 12 volt battery up to snuff It passes a load test and so on at the parts store on your charger etc 12 volts need 12 volts with necessary amps behind it so 9 volts 10 and 1/2 volts so on is not 12 volts You want to make sure this A lot of these communication problems seemingly stem from computers not talking to each other because of well one reason is low voltage or erratic voltage so maybe have a look.

I read somewhere that a subscription is needed with the Autel AP200 in order to bleed the brakes; true?

My 12V battery is pretty old. I had a new one installed 2015. It's the expensive round cell OEM one. I bought a couple load testers this summer and it passed then. I returned the digital one and kept the "real" old school load tester. It is however colder out now. Though it was a LOT colder a week ago and this code just popped up at a good 20 degrees warmer.

What you say No when you buy the AP200 you get to pick one brand of car for free that you will get all the software for so of course you select Toyota not the model the brand so you buy the AP200 the minute you get it you scan the little silly code on the side of the white device any other color you've got the wrong one and then you select Toyota from the list then you have to download $192 MB file that goes with your Maxi AP app right on your Android device or your Apple device or both and that's it there's no subscription If all of a sudden you want to start working on Hondas then you will have to buy the software for the AP200 for the Honda that will cost you I don't know what nor do I care I would just buy another AP200 for Hondas and put a h on it and put a t on the other one and if I started working on Lamborghinis I'd buy a third one and mark it l I guess But eventually you won't be able to buy these and you won't be able to get software for them and so on because they're discontinued so you should get right on it right quick believe me if you needed a subscription and had to pay something monthly I would tell you immediately because I don't play that shite.

I didn't find any of the number codes or U codes (mentioned which came from the Gen 3 manual). There weren't many DTC codes in this section.

As far as the manuals. I found the gen2 one with all the chapters as individual .pdf's. I found a Gen 3 with a wiring schematic and volume 1 (of 4). I haven't found the other 3 volumes for gen3.

Another thing to keep in mind is that a lot of what people look at and post about around here are internet PDFs that somebody made from the Toyota manuals a long long time ago ... and Toyota does make corrections and updates to their manuals.

I haven't checked, but it'd be quite possible that the gen 2 manuals you would currently find on TIS have had the missing codes filled in, maybe a long time ago.
