Have any of you applied 215/55/R17 tires to the Gen5? The difference between these and the stock 195/60/R17 comes down to three revolutions per mile which is basically irrelevant. There is plenty of room in the wheel well for ran extra 20mm of section width. I am less interested in the "will it work" than the "what tires did you choose?"

I should probably add that traction trumps efficiency in my book. Our 2017 Prius V is fitted with Continental DWS06 Plus tires which have already saved our lives once on an eighty to zero brake application on the Jersey Turnpike; The outcome would not have been good with the OEM tires.

Pirelli P Zero All Season 215/55R17 94V Performance Tire -
mostly for the perceived price to quality ratio: I paid $ 94.- per tire with free shipping at the time. So far quite happy with them, But they are not supposed to be so great on snow and ice.

Has anyone tried the Vredestein Quatrac Pro+ ? It's getting good reviews at tirerack dot com. I had some Vredesteins on a Volvo V70XC some years ago and was generally pleased with them. Treadwear was weaker than advertised but they were still a good tire. I should also point out that the car is currently fitted with a new set of Michelin X-Ice Snow in the factory 195/60/15 size. The plan is to purchase a dedicated set of summer wheels for whatever summer tires are chosen.

Where I live a traditional snow swap sets you back $100 per shot or $200 per year. Breakeven on a set of alloy wheels is about three years. I expect that either this vehicle or a Gen 5 Prime will be in the stable for the next ten years which makes this wheel purchase a no brainer.

I have Pirelli P7 AS Plus 3 215/55R-17's on currently with 17x7 Borbet Type W rims. I had the stock 19's on, but wanted to switch to something better for the mid-west winters. I've been happy with them and I think they'd make a great all season tire.

Tire Rack rates your Pirellis as #5 within the category vs. the Vredesteins at #1. The February issue of Consumer Reports put the Vredesteins at #3 and the Pirellis at #7 with both being recommended. I cannot say that I trust Consumer Reports as an authoritative source on ties but their rating does tend to confirm the findings over at Tire Rack. Luckily I've got at least three months to contemplate this.

I appreciate your input on this tire size. I came here looking for feedback about putting 215/55/R17 tires on the stock 17x6.5 rims on a 2024 LE. So you're pretty confident that using those instead of 195/60/R17 wouldn't cause any issues or reasons for concern? No clearance problems, and wider is still okay on the 6.5 rims?

Just want to have another size option we could switch over to in case we ever have problems getting our hands on an oem size tire, since we hear they can be a little hard to find. If we're ever traveling and need a quick fix it would be good to know.

    Yes, no, and yes.

You will be fine with a 215/55/R17 on the stock 17x6.5 rims. You will lose 10mm clearance in the wheel well ang gain another 10 mm of tire protrusion on the outside. This is all meaningless when you consider the 19-inch wheels and tires that work fine in the same space. These tires differ from the OEM size by only three revolutions per mile.

I would rather have 205/60/17 size, which would give you the same ride quality but slightly better handling and .4" less wheel gap. However, there is only 1 tire that was made and it's being discontinued.

Hey there! I gave up trying to find tires for these wheels so I swapped mine for RPF1's and slapped on 235, 223 which ever you prefer, you will never have issues finding tires again! Cheers!

At present we have Michelin X-Ice winter tires on the stock 17 x 6.5 wheels. Our plan is to purchase a set of 17 x 7 wheels for the summer with Vredestein Quatrac Pro+ in 215/55/R17 tires. We do the seasonal swap around 1 April in my neck of the woods. It's a little too early to be thinking about this more given that it was 2 degrees F this morning and a balmy 22 degrees now.
