dr prius lithuim modules problems

    heh... I do comprehend what I write and what I saw on the link you posted... see screenshot below.

    Do you not realize there is a "manufacture" core charge? So whatever price you pay you also pay an additional "core charge"... did you not realize that?

    you know.. id take you seriously if you listed the true charge to the credit/debit card which is $2,990.58 plus shipping for OEM

    that said, whose to say the batteries you buy now are made from the same materials as the cells 20 years ago when the vehicle was released? Budget cuts and such, heck... they are replacing 98,568 Tundras with the 3.4L turbocharged V6 engine due to machining debris in the engine and you think they got it right with the new stuff aye? Well, you do with your money as you please, but I'd like to think there would be more presents under the tree if you bought the Sodium battery, I mean that's just numbers bud.

    well, picture this.. a train leaving the station, me and the others are on it heading to HappyVille while you are at the station looking on like "dang, I wish I had what it takes to gamble with confidence in my abilities like them".

    all the while scaring the poor folks regarding an aftermarket battery that you have no experience in.... only word of mouth?

    these folks are looking at your words fearing the worst and here you are can't do the math on the overall initial cost of the battery... heheh whoever it was said they cant trust someone who chooses aftermarket... yet you can trust someone who chooses OEM to not do their math properly right?

    You realize that the core charge is refunded when you turn in the core, don't you?

    $2990.58 - $1350.00 = $1640.58. I'd take you more seriously if you could do basic math.

    Most dealers will not ship HV batteries so there is no "plus shipping" either.

    Still confusion, it doesn't say if it new or refurbished.
    That's 13 years old...... It's less for a 2nd Generation...
    If you were really concerned about your family you wouldn't have an older Prius.
    Given how so many say how unreliable they are and how much it will cost to keep it running.
    Whether someone has a family or not, it's reasonable to believe they concerned with
    their own safety and others on the road.

    The other comments make no sense....

    Really? Are you serious? Does every repair part sold by Toyota state that they're new? Pretty much every replacement part sold by Toyota has a 1 year warranty. It's standard. Nothing being hidden.

    That's 13 years old...... It's less for a 2nd Generation...

    WTH are you talking about? I have a 2009. Pretty sure it's now December 2024. That's 15+ years. What year are you living in?


    If you were really concerned about your family you wouldn't have an older Prius.

    Another stupid thing to say. I never said that's the only car we own. A well taken care of, 150k mile Gen 2 is plenty safe. Not everyone needs all the latest glitzy safety equipment that comes with the newest cars. Actually most of the new cars can still be bought at lower trim levels which DON'T have all the latest safety features.

    Given how so many say how unreliable they are and how much it will cost to keep it running.

    You're obviously not speaking from experience, because the Gen 2 is one of the least expensive cars ever made to "keep running" for anyone with 25 cents worth of DIY ability. If you're worried about "expensive to keep running", I'd focus on the head gasket prone 2010-2014 models that drop like flies.

    God, I can hardly even bring myself to waste any time with wannabeneutron. The guy that doesn't realize core charges are only appplied if you don't turn a core in when you pick up the battery? I even pointed out my price was from a dealership less than 30 minutes away, where, guess what?, I CAN PICK IT UP and turn in the correct portion of my old one at the same time. (if I decide to replace it, which isn't required yet, as it's still working ok) . Unfortunately, it's not a train leaving the station, it's just jimmy's brain. blackjmyneutron, apparently a legend in his own mind but doesn't understand basic stuff...what a joke. I was told this was a knowledgeable forum. I only see a handful of posters on here that appear to know what they're talking about.

    Yeah, jimmy, that was just a cut and paste of the first link that popped up when googling G9510-47033. Just showing that the price is available. You're not living up to your name. Not even close.

    You have no idea of what my confidence and abilities are, but I've read enough of your posts to know your kind. You talk a lot of sht, blow a lot of smoke and try to sound slick.     And to correct my "typo" 15 years, not 13. And the "cost" of the hybrid battery is less
    for the 2nd generation.

    That's 13 years old...... It's less for a 2nd Generation...

    Some people are so self involved and lost they can't be helped.

    the funny part is.. you actually believe I don't know what a core charge is... did you even read the words that I typed?
    see the below... The point I was making is... no matter what Price they say they will charge you... "INITIALLY" YOU ARE PAYING $3K and if you are thinking of your family like I said... that core charge could go a good ways in this week before the big holiday on gifts for the family... sounds like you just want to type a bunch of nonsense and not read what others write...

    I guess I am the only one who thinks of it in a sense that there is no way you can get a Toyota HV Battery for $1600 which is the same price as the Sodium on the initial charge to your card. You see, the way folks assume on the internet is quiet astonishing... or just their reading comprehension isn't as good as you would expect.

    You know, these days, I am starting to like you. It's just... this is the Gen 2 area, good sir!

    from the little research i have done so far on sodium cells is that they are just as expensive as lithium's until they get mass produced in huge quantities like lithium is now and they are a lot like lithium's in their performance except they can only be charged at half the rate of lithium and they are less tolerant of heat than lithium and the voltage profile sucks so you have to have a way to manage voltage or not be able to use the same percentage of capacity. for now the only advantage is you get use them in 10 to 15 degrees colder temperatures. unless the battery manufactures have come out with some new special sodium chemistry i do not see it being a better option except for cold climates , basically battery compartments need specialized temperature control to maintain optimal performance and prevent catastrophic damage to the pack , anything else is just half a$$. and one of the previous commenters was right about cycle life , both li and na suck . in order to make an li or na pack last long enough you have to seriously oversize the pack to only charge and discharge at a small current per cell and percentage of capacity. li v na batteries Screenshot (125).png

    but then the temp control measures are all rudimentary... two blower fans and some shaped plastic is all they are using. Its not rocket science. also... since they use the same battery chemistry between vehicles, all one would have to do is ensure the cells have the same spec for volts and the capacity the vehicle doesn't care about and wont throw errors on increase... whose to say you couldn't us the cells from the bz4x and if you have the male raw connector to ECU for your vehicle, to pin the original battery harness to another vehicle the work involved is minute... trust me I know!

    edit.. well.. not for sure sure until I get my hands on a battery pack. found one for $11k and gonna talk to one of my investors to see if they want to see what I find out from this endeavor...

    It was 44 degrees yesterday morning. The battery temps were:
    1: 57.60, 2: 59.94, 3: 57.83
    Not freezing weather, but pretty cold for Florida. I had NO issues with the battery.
    I only drove 4.5 miles round trip, with 10 stops each way and got 43.6 mpg.
    I'm not having any issues with my Sodium battery.

    as i stated in my original posts on my first and second lithium packs winter and summer i had problems which killed the pack , winter below 30 degrees for 2 to 3 months i drive to work for 1 hr at 330 am , this charging the batteries when the prius over night and especially over the weekend where the batteries have time to drop to the below freezing temps is outside lithium specs and destroys the batteries for a fact. as also many others find out as those in winter storms in chicago and other places had packs destroyed, and dr prius/nexcell had lots of complaints and warranty claims and admitted to pack failures. in summer v1 nexcell lithium packs failed due to overheating/ overcharging , a car sitting in the summer sun gets up to 150 degrees inside , hot enough for long enough to raise core battery temps then driving and powering up and recharging down hills overheats and kills the batteries , v2 they added greater protections to the modules that mitigates heat problems. people driving in mild climate areas where the core battery temps never go outside of the acceptable rang don' seem to have many problems . the massive amount of pack failures due to cold weather within a couple years is what presumably caused nexcell etc. to switch to sodium batteries , hoping that the extra 10 t0 15 degrees lower acceptable operating temps will prevent most of the pack failures that would otherwise occur. however sodiums seem to be more susceptible to high heat failures far more than lithiums , so people driving in hot weather areas should probably avoid sodium as either the pack will have to be greatly reduced in performance or airconditioned or be damaged. it all depends on the systems put in place managing the batteries , performance electrically and temperature control . simply changing chemistry without sufficient intelligent temp and electrical control is likely to cause the same problems , just shifting more failures in warm weather for less in cold weather . a lot of factors are in play with all the varoius drivers in different areas , hills ,altitude , cold / hot weather etc. , nexcell acknowledged it is extreme or non average climate and driving conditions that are the cause of most of their pack failures . so yes the vast majority of people with average driving in average climates/ conditions will not have problems , for the rest of us the pack die , and the solutions are more with temp and electrical control , not a change in chemistry.
