GM, Prius Limited 2024 Found this morning my car with trunk open…can’t close it with any of the buttons. The garage door is too low, so can’t even get out. Toyota emergency or the dealer were no help Any ideas how to close the trunk? Thanks
Idiocracy creeps up slowly. In the olden days when someone's trunk wouldn't close they'd grab some cord, string, bungee, you know, any sort of rope-like item and lash the trunk to where it meets the bottom. While it will not be a fully secure and locked trunk, it will allow you to exit your garage.
Take your hands, place them on the hatch, push down until it closes. When the hatch has lost its memory for some reason(like when the battery is disconnected), the hatch needs to be closed manually the first time. After that it should operate as normal.
Hammersmith, Thank you so much for your text! I did that but apparently the open trunk or something else drained my battery and I had to jumpstart the car. A Toyota rep was saying that it was the light in the trunk that exhausted the battery. The manual says that light stays on only 20 min and probably should not be blamed. The dealer says that everything is ok with the battery. It’s a puzzle-brand new car and had to be jumpstarted for the second time now
I know it !!! I totally don’t understand why in the world Toyota has 4 different buttons to open/close that ridiculously small trunk! I am also afraid to damage an expensive sensor or a camera or some other piece of electronics.
It will feel like you're fighting against the system but it's designed to be able to be done, just push it down and it'll probably work fine after
If manually forcing it closed (hearing those gears grind made me cringe every time) - check my post and see if you have the same issue. I never had a dead battery, but mine wouldn't' close anymore and I had to get the dealer to replace parts. Rear powered door doesn't close
Mine did this the other day, however it wasn't open when I got to the car. I opened it, and when I hit the button to close it, it just beeps. I was stuck in the garage so I manually pushed the door down and used the button to cycle it open and closed, no issues since.
Sounds like you hit the "close and lock" button, which will beep at you until you walk away, at which point it will close the trunk then lock all the doors. If you hit the button to its left (without a picture of a lock) it will close immediately but not lock anything
