Scanned all ECUs on my mother's 2012 today with Techstream and found a C2300 code which was in a results column which at the top had an abbreviation something like CUR COD. So I just wrote down "Current" in my notes. However, there is no CEL set on the dash. There was no other transmission related code, just a single history code for one of the dash vent actuators. Does it make sense for a C2300 to be set, and not the CEL, and no other codes? The car always starts, and as far as I can tell there is nothing abnormal about how it changes transmission states.

I have noticed that when changing directions she always shifts before the car completely stops. That is, she will be backing up, and starts to slow down, but puts it into D before velocity goes all the way to zero. And the same thing when going forward and shifitng to R. The shifts are at very low speeds though, like less than 2 MPH. Anyway, I always read that shifting like that was bad practice on a traditional transmission, but maybe not on a Prius? Or maybe yes on a Prius and hence the code?

    Thanks.

Cleared the codes. Drove the car forward and backwards a number of times, and into and out of Park and Neutral, and the C2300 did not immediately return. Not much of a test though.

About the check-engine light, it mostly lights for engine codes, which will typically be powertrain codes that start with a P. A chassis code like C2300 might not be expected to light the CEL, though sooner other light might be expected with it.

The other threads I have seen that mention C2300 have other codes associated with it, and usually actual transmission issues, like not going from one gear to another, and especially not coming out of Park. In this case, neither of those other conditions is present, (The A/C related code does not count.) Is that because whatever is failing is early days, it is off, but not so far off that the transmission won't shift? I looked at the HX manual and it said that some fuse had to be removed to clear C2300 because the intelligent tester couldn't do it. But as far as I can tell Techstream cleared it without any problems. I didn't see the P position indicator blinking slowly either, before or after it was cleared.

I can check it again tomorrow after it gets a bit more drive time in, to see if the code has returned.

Unclear how to proceed because there are no actual transmission problems observed, and the display indicator of the problem (blinking P) was not seen.

A current (active) C2300 code should turn on the master warning light (RToD).

The car was driven on a short trip of about a mile twice today. Then it was scanned for codes and there were none. Doesn't seem like this is an all the time sort of problem. Do C2300 codes stick around forever as "current" once they are set? If so we might be looking at a single event from up to a year ago.
