I’m trying to use search feature and can’t seem to find past posts on these accessories.

Those of you who have had Gen 5 for a while which of these accessories are you happy with/ waste of money? If I had $$, I would have requested larger screen with 360 camera but not in my budget.

I’m definitely saying no to body side molding. Lately these cars have been built without most of these accessories added but of course this car has all of them so I have limited time to request removal. I was going to wait and order the black plastic door sill protectors but I don’t think I have it in me to install. Plus not crazy about how they look.

    1. Door guards
    2. Door sill protectors - not much protection where it’s really needed
    3. Wheel locks - are there better after market versions? I live where wheels could potentially be stolen
    4. Mudflaps
    4. $70 for charging cables? No thanks but I won’t be using the built in wireless charger so I will need to buy port and charging cable. Any recommendations? My previous ports didn’t last long in my 2009.

    Thank you!!

I’m thankful that 2024 Prime came with OEM mudflaps installed - maybe because I am in Canada. Not perfect but better than nothing.

I went with carpet mats, mudflaps, and the rear bumper applique.

I've added the regular door sill protectors and dashcam myself(plus lots of other stuff, but I'm just listing the parts that you can officially get). I'm very 'meh' on the protectors. They're more about appearance than protection, and they're right on the edge of too 'blingy' in this car for my personal taste. But taste is highly subjective, so what's blingy to me might be understated for someone else. I'm not going to remove them, but I'm not 100% certain I'd do it again. This will be my first winter with them, so my opinion might change(either way) after that. I also had PPF installed in the door handle cups when I had my car ceramic coated(those areas attract scratches like you wouldn't believe).

In my conditions, I don't have a need for door edge guards or wheel locks, but I could see where those might be useful for people in other conditions.

What I wish I would've added right away is PPF on the front bumper, hood, mirror caps, and maybe front fenders. Not the thin and overpriced stuff installed by dealers, but the good stuff installed by a quality detailing shop. But the need for PPF is highly depended on paint color and driving conditions. I'm in a rural area and do a lot of highway driving. I don't drive on gravel unless I absolutely can't avoid it, but there're still enough small rocks on our paved roads that chips in the paint are a problem. Not a huge deal with the white, silver, gray, and possibly yellow paint colors, but they're very noticeable on red, black, and probably blue. But the big problem is the four-digit price tag for a good PPF job. Probably $1k-$3k just for the front, and $4k-$7k for the whole car. That's a tough pill to swallow.

Oh, and I also got the emergency and first aid kits just because, but I ordered them myself to save 30%. (could have saved ~45% if I had waited for one of the additional 20% sales)

Thank you for your detailed post. I agree the door sills are a bit “blingy”. The polished silver sills don’t look good against the cutting edge.

I removed everything except the mud-flaps and the door edge guards but I’m thinking of removing the guards. They kind of look like something was left on by mistake during delivery. I guess the cutting edge won’t fade too much in case I get stuck with them and decide to remove them in a few years.

Wish I could find a good PPF specialist near me. I do drive on gravel roads sometimes and I’m always the one trying to pass the truck full of gravel. : } Knowing this new car has poor quality paint is going to really stress me out!

I wouldn't say the paint quality is bad(and the Japanese-built cars like the Prius have better paint than the North American-built Toyotas), it's just that the white or light gray primer on the metal panels shows the chips so much worse on the dark colors.

My gen3 was in silver, and I never noticed all the chips until I went to polish it up before trading it in. The chips were there all along, you just couldn't see them once you were a couple feet away because the primer color was so close to the silver paint color. But my new gen5 in red shows the light primer on every chip in the paint(the bumper isn't so bad since it's black plastic underneath and any chips just look like bug splatter).

Since you're getting yours in silver, I wouldn't stress about it.

Though I'd definitely think about the rear bumper applique, since I believe you said you use your car regularly to transport stuff.

Skip the door edge guards, they’ll as like as not do more damage then good, collect crud, scuff the paint.

If it was me, I wouldn’t get any extras. Do get a touch-up paint, though.

Well…I went over to the dealership to take a look at what was on the lot. All three Prius/Primes had no door guards, mud guards or door sills. Even SUVs didn’t have mud guards. I think they would look ok on the LE because it already has some plastic trim.

I removed everything except all weather mats. The money would be better spent going towards a spare tire.
    Thanks!

Thank you. That’s why my silver Prius looks better than it should. Even a recent scuff sort of blends in.

My first go around I was adamant about getting the bumper appliqué until I saw it in person. My 2009 cargo area has carpet with a tarp over it plus the much wider appliqué. The carpet looks almost brand new because it’s always been covered. I think I’ll keep using the tarp and add a blanket to cover the bumper when unloading. The biggest challenge will be the cargo floor not being level with the cargo entry. I’m a senior now!
