Hey guys first post but have been lurking for awhile lol.

Looking at getting a 2012 prius v wagon. They are selling it cheap because they said the mechanic they brought it to says it needs a new inverter. All the lights are on the dash and it's driving like it's in limp mode. It's still showing that's it's trying to charge the battery. My scanner would not pull any codes for it.

My question would be are the inverters the same for the regular prius or does the v wagon use a different one? The seller was told they are unable to get an inverter for it.. I checked ebay and found a few used ones but they don't say if they are compatible with the v wagon.

Btw this one is not covered for the inverter warranty

    Thanks

Why isn't it covered by the Toyota 20-year inverter warranty?

The v inverter is different. There were two different inverter tsbs, one for hatchbacks and another for v’s. Either way an unmolested 2012 inverter is covered. With appropriate codes.

Probably the inverter in it is not original, may not be for an v and could have been installed by the seller. Guaranteed way to lose coverage.

No way should you buy a non runner. Easily could have a blown head gasket, and or brake booster (also unique on a v).
