Fob programming to Lock/Unlock

    2008 Prius Base, no smart key:

    I was able to program the new Fob to start the car but I can’t program lock/unlock
    My old Fob is dead unfortunately so I can’t perform the chicken dance, please let me know what are options? Thenkw

    Slide the back off your old fob see the gray sticker take a picture of that sticker take the new fob you have get another one so you'll have two take the picture of the gray label and your old broken fob if you want to a locksmith with the electronic tools and he'll have you done in short order and should be relatively inexpensive because your providing the fobs and you have all the numbers on your old label of your old fob and all he has to do is look up in his computer and literally strike a few keys and a little bit of nonsense and those two fobs will be working generally speaking it's that quick I have a guy here that does them You just have to make sure he's one of the locksmiths that's capable with the electronic transponder type keys generally if you ask the locksmith if he can do an Aprilia motorcycle He should be able to do your Prius That's the question I usually ask a new locksmith and if he says he can do that then the Prius generally will be a breeze or any of these Toyotas It's only a bunch of money when you make the locksmith provide the fobs and all this kind of stuff You already have a working key and a broken fob so he has the key to copy for the new fobs. You may want to order new cases they're about $9 for a pair of them so that you'll have key blanks for him to cut and then you can put the new cases on the used fobs slide the cut keys into the place where they go and you'll have like brand new for not a lot of money or you can just turn it over to somebody and pay $500 and be done.

    With TIS or Toyota software I think all that's going to do is allow you to generate some sort of key or something as in numbers so I'm not sure that that will fix you up with non-factory to that car fobs and I have the software I'll look in it first thing in the morning and see what it seems to say about that I know you can delete all the keys from your car's memory and system and all that but I don't think that I would do that just yet because you have a broken fob that still registered to the car and if a locksmith does everything properly cloning what you have however that works then you'd be good but if you use the Toyota software to delete all keys and all of that then you need to pay money to get a seed key or something along those lines It's kind of a silly process I'm sure it's talked about here quite a bit I've seen it referenced but I don't save all that and remember the exact posts.

    Maybe. It will depend on the quality of the VCI cable you have and whether you can access a seed code.

    In any case, you will need a seed code so you can reset the immobilizer ECU and re-add the key(s).

    What kind of VCI cable you recommend?

    My old Fob can still start the car but its basically dead, you don’t think if it can start the car than its capable of letting Techstream program know that the Fob belongs to my car?

    With a working fob it’s easy; without a working fob Toyota requires you to be in a certified locksmith database to initialize the immobilizer and setup new fobs.

    It must be in slot to do so correct? And your positive battery is correct 2032 w volts read by dvom? Remote been re cased?

    I installed the battery but no light but it does start the car.

    Maybe you should pull the fob apart if it's original and have a look in there I don't know if it's ever been wet or any other kind of funny business been sitting in coffee and be surprised with people do you'll need your Dremel or a sharp scraper or a meat cleaver and a hammer to get the original remote apart it's Sonic welded closed unlike other models of remotes and the new one will squeeze together on and come apart no problem when you're ready again if ever and then that way there you can see inside there should be a red light in the upper corner of the remote that comes on when you push any button on the remote You can see it clearly even in the daytime so maybe taking the fob apart and not losing the little transponder chip that's in the very bottom of the fob when you smack it apart do it over a white piece of paper The little transponder chip looks like a broken piece of plastic and some people have thrown it away Don't be that guy maybe this is the next step before programming and locksmithing or what have you seems to me that light needs to be All three of my cars here right now have the light and they all function SKS functions all of it I have re-cased all of the remotes and you would not believe the trash inside of some of the remotes but they were all working

    Five cases are on eBay I buy them for $9 a pair they come with a spare blank key and they fit like a glove they work perfectly I have no complaints I have bought from several different sellers without any problems oh sometimes the screws are funky that close the battery door but other than that no issues sometimes I just put the battery door on move the gray label over to the spot it goes on and slide the remote together the back just stays closed and on the battery with the cover in place so there's always that too but I would definitely be wanting to look into that remote. Because with it in the slot it can work without a battery it'll start the car getting in it you'll have to slide the key out to unlock the door if you did that so that just tells me that your battery may not be making good contact may not have good voltage or the remote made be gummed up inside

    Original remote is toasted, it has no light, I tried everything and it just doesn’t have any juice left.
    Yeah I kept the transponder inside safely, I believe that helps to start the car.

    So basically you need to round up two fobs black or silver back whatever you have and go from there apparently. The original remote still has the gray sticker in it or hopefully you saved .
