2024 Prius Being Leased for $319 In Colorado Springs

    Looks like my dealership (Corwin Toyota in Colorado Springs) has a new deal on 2024 Prius....Lease for $319 (with $2,999 down) or Lease Rebates up to $10,100! (I'm not sure what that last deal means.)
    I looked at the inventory....18 Prius are in stock with 3 more coming in.
    So there must've been a backlog of them earlier in the year so they're shipping them out.
    Interesting...the ones listed range from $33-40K.

    might have been held in port for the rear door lock repair. they should move quickly with the lower interest rates

    Nope, no need to hurry. There will be huge dealer discounts and factory rebates on Prius and Prius Prime sometime next year. (In fact, there are already good dealer discounts.) It has nothing to with backlogs/recalls. It has to do with the popularity of the new Camry HEV, Corolla, RAV4, etc.

    Interesting. What makes you say this? And how is the popularity of toyota hybrids going to affect prius prime prices?

    I am curious (ignoring the toyota lease cash), what are the best dealer discounts that folks are finding on SE and XSE prius primes? So far, the best that I have found for primes is $1500 off msrp on an SE and $2000 off msrp on an XSE (in NY state). Anybody find bigger discounts than that?

    This makes a lot of sense. The Camry is a better per pound value, the Corolla Cross is much easier for an old fellow with bad knees and the Corolla Hybrid is a fair bit less expensive. People who are dragged away from the goldilocks state of the Prius may have better choices.

    Those are great cars.

    But unfortunately none are PHEVs.

    Currently, the dealer lots are flooded with Priuses and Prius Primes, but Camrys, Corollas, etc. are hard to find.

    Dealer discounts will keep increasing. It depends on the trim. You should be able to easily get $3,000 off MSRP for an XSE Premium, which has a huge surplus. The SE is almost impossible to find.

    There is the RAV4 Prime PHEV, but it's expensive.

    I was able to get an offer of $2k off msrp on an XSE with no dealer add ons.

    If I understand this correctly, the accessories and packages that show up on the sticker aren't added by the dealer, but are put on at the port by the distributor.

    I don't care about an overcharge for a set of rubber floor mats. However, gluing or pressing on "protective" gear is disqualifying. Door edge guards can trap grit and cause corrosion and the body side moldings, like the door bump strips a lot of cars had in the 80s, really degrade the clean lines of the Prius design.

    The unpopularity of the Prius and Prius Prime seems to be only for the higher trims, and blame the high MSRP for that. The LE and SE are selling like hotcakes. However, the higher trims are not selling. And Toyota, as usual, doesn’t produce what people want but what brings more profits. So, the LE and SE are very hard to find. This is from Longo Toyota:

    So, @daisy555, are you still shopping for an XLE? There are currently many XLEs in stock. If you wait for a couple of more months, you could probably get deep dealer discounts below MSRP.

    Once upon a time there was only one hybrid model.

    Now it's almost the entire lineup.

    Once upon a time there was only one PHEV model.

    Now there are two, and signs of others in the near future.

    I'm very excited about the idea of a Camry PHEV arriving someday.

    me too, but being told there isn't room for the battery.
    otoh, after owning the bolt for over a year, mrs b and i like the higher seating and smaller form factor.
    so when it comes to buying our next cruiser, we may be looking for something a bit different than the hycam.
    plug in rav4 is too big. hopefully there will be a plug in more like a crossover.
    or even better, battery and charging capabilities will improve enough for us to cruise in a bev, like we do the hycam.
    600 miles a day with just a few 5-10 minute pitstops.

    Yeah, I think a lot of buyers are toying with the plug-in option, but it's not trivial; you're looking at an already bulky/heavy battery, becoming two or three times more so. And if it ever needs replacement... Mercifully I can't recall any of the plug-ins requiring replacement, at least reported here. Maybe the massive battery's are more bullet-proof??

    And studies show there's a lot of buyers with little or no interest in plugging in, buying them purely for the incentives, HOV lane access and so on.

    People want the Rav4 Prime which was and still is very difficult to find and when you do, it still has a dealer “market adjustment” tacked on. When Toyota starts making them here as they do the Rav4 Hybrids, supply will increase and costs will go down.

    Overall paying extra for a plugin is tough when gas is $2.60 a gallon around here. We were crying back in 2008 when gas was $4 and most people were driving big cars getting 20mph. So a Prius gen2 was a hot ticket back then. At one time I had two 08s.

    I think plug-ins have longer battery life simply because they have huge capacity to lose before they won’t work as a hybrid.

    Emission regulations can also be part of PHEV battery longevity. The Feds set the minimum 8yr/100k mile warranty for emission controls. CARB has longer. The hybrid battery falls under those warranties. BEVs don't need emission controls, so manufacturers can set the battery warranty to whatever they want, and then set operation to for whatever battery. With the PHEV, they have to keep warranty required by law in mind with programing the cars operation.
