Hello all, forgive me for asking about a topic that seems to have been well covered but I couldn't find an answer to my specific question.

In a lot of the existing threads people mention that KYB was the manufacturer for the OEM Toyota struts but others also suggest avoiding after market (including KYB) struts to increase longevity and reduce weird noises etc. If both are correct, does that mean KYB was the manufacturer but the parts they sell under their own brand (their Excel-G struts) are not identical to the ones they produce for Toyota?

I've got a strut replacement coming up and will likely be going with the KYB assemblies regardless just because of the price difference from OEM but if they end of wearing out quickly I want to know if that could have been avoided by sticking with Toyota branded parts.

I think factory is Tokiko (spelling). KYB is an aftermarket equivalent (ish) to those. I had a set of KYB on my car and they were already blown after about 40k miles or 4 years. Now running Tein EnduraPro Plus adjustable dampening, big upgrade (if you make sure all your other components and tires are good).
