Hi! New owner of a Prius here on Mexico, after getting it I realized we got TSS 2.5+ no matter the trim, which is a bummer (shame on Toyo), I was wondering if it would be possible to upgrade to TSS 3.0? I've heard parts are made specifically for each vehicle due to calibrations and what not, but since the chassis and system is basically the same, wouldn't it be easier as just installing the updated camera and sonic sensor from the US model to make it work? What do you think? The parts i've identified are the distance sensor: 88210-48170 And the front camera: 8646C-47130
perhaps mexico is different? it's unlikely that you can upgrade, as it would involve sensors and ecu's, not just software, but it is worth asking the dealer
Cars for Mexico have had different equipment in the past. Using TSS 2.5 would be a way of cutting the price for the market, or saving parts for other markets. As for upgrading it, the computer might also be different to handle the input of the better sensors.
Unfortunately, you can’t upgrade TSS—the gauge-display menu system and physical controls are different.
Yup, in fact this is the first gen of Prius that actually includes TSS here, which was exciting until I realized it was downgraded to 2.5+ lol The Camry did arrive with 3.0 though. But that would be another 9k+
Highly doubt they'll do something, couldn't add the middle tail light when I asked I bet it will be the same with the radar/camera. I'll just to be sure haha
I don't think its worth 9k, but I will say, TSS3.0 is very nice. Coming from a car that didn't have any of these features, and reading the 2.5 vs 3.0 experiences and differences, the 3.0 sounds like a fair bit of a leap. The lane keeping and speed matching has made driving in traffic to work an absolute breeze. Really takes a lot of the mental load off since I'm only really worried about people cutting me off because they see that I have following distance ahead of me. But that part isn't very different, I've always left following distance in the past since I've seen too many rear end situations from lack of it.
regardless of the paper differences, the 3.0 in our Prius is much better than the 2.5 in our 2024 Rav4 4 Prime. The software is better. Tighter control of the wheel. Much better experience. The Rav feels straight out of 2019, while in comparison the Prius feels really modern and good. even keep distance and such, and speeding back up to keep up with traffic? The algorithm is clearly completely different and better in the Prius. the comparison papers and articles don’t really do it justice. Driving them back to back though? Totally can tell a huge leap forward.
Welp, now I feel sadder I don't have it lol I'll research if I can change the sensors myself, hopefully I don't just waste some money
I don't think it has anything to do with the hardware. I think it is entirely a software upgrade. But you can't upgrade the software because it is not available for your car, and chances are that you are missing some physical buttons as well. I am guessing that the 2025 or 2026 Mexican model will have TSS 3.0; so, you can trade in yours then.
I am sure it's better than TSS 3.0, but I doubt it’s a huge leap forward, and I wouldn’t keep my eyes off the road with either. For it to be a huge leap forward, it would have to handle cars cutting in front of me, suddenly braking, etc. With my eyes on the road, TSS 2.0, which I always turn on, is fine for me.
It's handled people taking very tight lane changes for me very well. It brakes a bit hard and makes sure I don't get hit. Of course, it doesn't honk the little horn on its own though, so I've had to do that. I think 3.0 is a big leap. But I still wouldn't pay another 9k to have it. But if two cars were less than 2k apart, I'd pay the premium given how helpful and good it is on the freeway and in traffic.
