And bought a new '25 Camry. The Prius had 119,000 miles and was running great and I've done all the factory required maintenance, but all the fear mongering in this forum about the head gasket, etc. had me worried so I felt it was time. If not for that, I would have held onto it for a few more years.

    Fear mongering, lol...

Toyota could have run a few gen 3's on a test track, seen the EGR clogging and oil consumption, fixed it. But they chose not to. I hope they get nailed, but not holding my breath.

What's nice is the EPA is 53/50 mpg, which is about the same as the old Prius.

They had a new Prime at the dealer. Nice but the roofline was so low I had difficulty getting in and out the car and my head hit the headliner sitting in the rear seat. When comes the time to replace my '17 Prime, because of that and the cost, I may not buy a Prime.

that's exactly why i didn't go with a new prime, plus the lower hatch roof and narrower hatch.
we're getting 50+ around town in the new hycam, and 48 on our florida trip last winter.
and the cost of a new bolt, $23,500. was a no brainer.

Talk about hitting the panic button. Mine has 240,000 miles and averaging 62 mpg per tank with solar roof without the dimpled roof. On third set of spark plugs and no oil burning on stock nimh battery. I’m catching up on asrdogman’s miles driven.

Like I said, if not for reading this forum, I would have kept the car for another few years. I haven't determined how some can have such problems vs. others who get high mileage without incident. I suspect it's how you maintain your car (like coolant changes) and how you drive it, and never subscribed to the EGR blowing headgasket theory; but, inconclusive. The car is now 11 years old so it's served it's time. I never had anything go wrong either. I may have been money ahead if I didn't read this forum and kept it a lot longer, maybe not. That's the problem with a forum like this. Most people come here to complain about problems (ignoring the vast majority that don't and don't visit here) and there is no detail as to how the vehicle was maintained and driven, which could have been the cause of the problems. This unproven EGR theory causing blown headgaskets is especially troubling and impossible to prove one way or another. I'm kinda pissed that I gave up a good car that may have given many more years of trouble free miles and wasted thousands of dollars accordingly, but that's the decision my wife and I made.

agree with everything you said except, 'ignoring the vast majority who don't and don't visit here'

we have no idea what is happening to peoples cars who don't visit here. i would think that a high percentage of the driving public would take a problem car to a dealer or mech, and not to an online diy forum.
