I've had good success with Chevron Techron Fuel Injector cleaner fuel additive for clogged injectors due to cr@ppy gas. Haven't used it for a long time though, since they starting putting the detergents in the gas.

Does that stuff really work? Seems like snake oil to me.

I've used mm oil for decades. It certainly works for me.
I've used it in my other vehicles and I have noticed an improvement each time.

I put a 1/2 qt in the gas when I fill up every dozen or so fill ups.
And every other oil change I use 1qt.

Again, it has worked for ME. I cannot speak for anyone else.

Does it free up stuck oil rings?

The ONLY way to REALLY free them up is to remove the piston, remove the rings from
    the piston and clean them.
I imagine is you put some king of solvent in to replace the oil, remove the spark plugs and
some how turn the engine over for several hours or days perhaps it will eventually clean them.

I never said mm oil would clean the rings. Though I believe it does help clean and/or keep the
    engine clean.

These were the parts that were cleaned / replaced when I had mine done.

    Okay, I've found the following....

    25685-37010 Gasket, EGR Cooler $4.48
    25627-37010 EGR Valve Gasket $4.57
    25628-28010 Gasket, EGR Inlet $3.56

    What I can't find is....
    17177 Gasket for intake manifold

I can find the entire assembly but not the gasket by itself.
Also don't know if there are other parts I should order for my 2013 Prius Two.

Check ebay. That's where I got the intake manifold gasket.

My Amayama order; I believe top one is intake manifold to head. It's all the pliable gaskets attaching to intake manifold.

Does anyone know if a Toyota engine overhaul gasket kit will include the proper EGR gaskets? Thanks in advance...

I don't think so, believe engine overhaul kit gaskets are all internal to the engine. Do you mean these:

    upload_2023-9-26_12-20-4.png

They are sturdy metal, quite durable. Last EGR foray I caved and changed the (pliable) gaskets at intake manifold, but I wouldn't bother changing those others, regardless of that "non-reusable part" designation in the above.

Yes, but you also want to get the FULL kit. It will have the "O" rings for the waterpump, thermostat,
    and oil filter housing....

Hello all, I am a frequent reader, but should contribute more.

I posted a while back on this thread with my whole list of OCD procedures to keep the head gasket on our 2013 from failing. Well it finally let go just under 240k. No evidence of contributing factors as no coolant leaks. I cleaned the EGR cooler and lines and intake at 109k, 182k, and 218k, new water pump at about 160k as preventative maintenance. It was a leak into cylinder 1 that gave a P301 after a single short death rattle start-up. Removal of the plug showed a little red fluid in the cylinder. Interesting and challenging thing is when removing the head the back corner head bolt adjacent cylinder 4 broke off inside the block about 1.5 inches below the deck. Very carefully drilled the center of it with a smaller but long enough regular drill bit, and then LH bit to work it out very carefully without damaging block threads. The heat and mountains in AZ may be a contributor to the lack of longevity on the head gasket, and many have mentioned it is just a weaker link on this particular engine. Still feeling good as it is still pretty solid service for an 11 year old car! Going to borrow a straight edge to check the block and have the head tested and resurfaced and if all looks good will reassemble with new head gasket and other seals and gaskets as timing cover was starting to seep. We will see how long it goes before it starts using oil. I do see some very faint vertical scratches on the back of cylinder 2 which is a bit concerning.

The "scratches" are likely from the oil rings sticking and not expanding.
It wears the cylinder walls unevenly.
While you have it apart, you may want to get a short block and save problems in the near future.

Gasket Masters video on dealing with frozen head bolts:

how’s the oil consumption? If it’s getting up there, another reason to consider new short block.

my 2 cents: a full clean, at least every 50k, is the only way to keep the EGR system performing within specs. Any more than that, the carbon build up prevents sufficient cooling, restricts flow, gets sticking valve and selectively starves the cylinder one end.

hope it works out for you; definitely post updates.

I become aware of the potential EGR cooling a little to late and started my regimen already over 100k, the first cleaning was a lot of build up, the subsequent were pretty clean and things were not blocked. No oil usage (or at least low enough at this point not to register between oil changes). Here are a few pics of what this looked like. I should have got a pic of the cylinder 2 scratches if I could have even gotten them to be visible on camera, but it was 97 degrees at 9pm working on this in my son's garage and I was getting a little overcooked. I have not seen anyone on the forum mention a warped block deck, just trying to determine if I can check the deck with the OEM tools 24 inch straight edge from Autozone with .001 inch per foot tolerance, or do I need to locate a machinist straight edge from Snap-On or Starrett with .0002 inch per foot tolerance?

Thanks for the advice, it's my daughters college car at this point and not sure she is ready to make that investment, it is not using oil at any measurable level yet but may soon be. Good chance I'll be reporting back at some point in the future you were correct. I'll try to get a picture of the scratches on here. It will be interesting to see how long the bottom end lasts at any rate. My son's 2005 prius is still going with a quart per 4000 miles and he can't seem to kill that car.
