Red Triangle keeps coming on intermittently

    Translated: The tech is not competent enough to find an open wire that is well documented by Toyota.

    Obtaining the drawings from the Toyota TIS system would be the first thing an experienced tech would do. He would want to understand the circuit prior attempting anything. The TIS system requires paid access ($25 for two days) and some experience to navigate and ultimately understand the drawings.

    Jumping 12v past a suspected open in a wire harness by an untrained person could cause even more problems. Ecus could be permanently damaged guaranteeing a junk yard exit for the car.

    Right now the right tech might fix it for one or two hours labor. Unfortunately dealer mechanics are not the best resource these days.

    I would find an independent automotive diagnostician like Ivan at Pine Hollow diagnostics or a similar recommended shop near you.

    I don't know if this would fit under the fuse cover, but there are little fuse holders which are already tapped that can go into the slot instead of the fuse, and then the fuse is plugged into this new part. Here is a picture of one (this particular one holds two fuses, you don't need that, just one fuse slot, and in this one the fuse goes in sideways):

    Pull the fuse and plug this tap in. Don't install the fuse yet. Turn on the car (expect error codes/warning lights as that circuit will not be powered). Check the voltage in the crimp with respect to ground (bare metal on the car frame, usually a bolt head). If you see +12V turn the tap around. You should now see no voltage (probably 0V, but it might be wandering around because the wire is dangling in space and its voltage is more "undefined" than "zero"). Now put the fuse in, and that tap wire should read +12V. The wire is now tapped in downstream from the fuse, and anything attached to that wire will be protected by the fuse.

    The other way to do this is to get underneath the fuse box and find where the wire for that circuit comes out, and then use a tap like this (there are many varieties of taps, this is just one type):

    Apologies for going quiet for a while, it's been rather busy at home lately.
    I can't get Techstream to work, it's supposed to come with drivers according to the website, but the download link just gives me the patches to run the software with, neither of which worked when I had the Tactrix plugged into the car.
    Am I missing something? A driver download I've been overlooking maybe?​

    If you are using the Tactrix OpenPort cable, you need to install the driver that came with that cable. There should be no other "Techstream" drivers needed as the Techstream installer should load everything required on the Techstream side.

    However, within Techstream, you need to ensure you have the Tactrix VIM (as they call it – Vehicle Interface Module) selected.

    Instead of showing XHorse - MVCI as illustrated above, yours should show the relevant Tactrix VIM.

    Alright, got the driver from the taxtric website, installed it, switched to the tactrix VIM on Techstream. If I run the 64bit patch while plugged into the car, it should work, is that right? I'm getting the software registration popup whenever I try to do anything through the Techstream.​

    If this is the legal version from Toyota you will need at least a temporary license. I imagine that what you do on a hacked version will vary from one to another. For starters though I would try turning off the network before running Techstream. It may be trying to communicate with some Toyota server and the version you are running may not be currently authorized to do so. If you can get past that step it might run.

    Many of the hacked versions require manual editing of the Windows Registry. Most use the “mini-vci” (mvci or just vci) hardware interface which often comes with an executable to change the registry.

    Plus these considerations are from a hacked Techstream install file set of instructions:

    Registry Hack: Run the [ VCIi-64bit.reg ] file to modify the registry for Techstream to recognize MINI-VCI under Windows x64

    Note: some antivirus program(Such as Norton/McAfee) may take the registration files to be a threat to the computers and delete them automatically which will make the software incomplete, if you meet the case, please just disable the antivirus before loading software and installation…

    Click "Software Registration" , copy and paste this code then click "OK" :

    (2) The software we provide is a offline standalone version, If someday you get a Update Notification from Toyota web to ask you upgrade your current TIS Techstream software , DO NOT do it , just click cancel and move on if you don't have a official Toyota TIS account .     With that said many get it running on an old Windows xp or 7 machine with disabled WiFi and internet.

    Toyota now has a completely new version which has not been hacked.

    The software may require a digital key for further use during the process of connecting the diagnostic cable to the vehicle.

    So I'm looking at the fuse tap and looking up videos on how to use it. I'm understanding how to install the fuse part of the fuse tap, where do I put the crimp end? Am I putting the fuse tap into where the PCon fuse is?​
    Could I have a little more thorough explanation of 'tapped in downstream' please?

    Just trying to get an answer, if anyone wouldn't mind. If I'm understanding this correctly, the fuse tap goes into PCon fuse, and the wire crimp goes to the jumper wire, which then goes into the same place as the existing wire. Do I have that right?​

    I’m unsure if people are still checking this thread or not, but this will be my last post.

    My daughter and I took a closer look at the car’s fuse box and found the issue. It was a broken pin, one, single, broken pin. I called over a couple of friends to help, see what we could do, they determined that there was nothing they could do to fix the pin. They installed the fuse tap by cutting the blue wire and splicing it into the wire end of the fuse tap, which fixed the master warning light, we’re going to drive the car for a while just to make sure.

    We may have found someone willing to buy the car off us, at 16 years and over 300k, and us wanting a 2013 Prius V for some time, we’ve decided to sell the car, now that the master warning light is out.

    Thank you everyone for all your time and suggestions, we greatly appreciate your help.
