I've got a 2011 Prius that needs an engine located in southern Illinois. It seems a JDM engine is the route to take. Any insight on which JDM importers are more reliable than others? I've seen mixed reviews on most. I've been looking at Orlando JDM and Texas JDM. It would be nice to see what I'm buying, but doesn't seem to be an option. I've seen the 4th gen swap into 3rd gen, but plan to stick with 3rd gen due to price and what my mechanic is comfortable with. I've also seen the traveling mechanic that does them (so cool), but time is a concern as well. Greatly appreciate any insight. Thank you.

Not so much. Reading 1000s of reviews it seems like all the suppliers are hit and miss. I came across hybrid pit stop in CA and was tempted to go with a rebuilt engine from them, but ultimately rolled the dice on a JDM engine from JDM Orlando . It's supposed to ship out today.

Have you found a place where you know what year you're getting?

I spoke with JDM Orlando today, they have the engine I want for 250 less than JDM Dallas.
There's a number of folks on here who've been been happy with JDM Dallas
I haven't read anything about JDM Orlando. Have you seen reviews or talk to folks have gotten engines from them?

I bought my very 1st one from Texas JDM. It was supposed to be checked out and clean. My helper put it in before taking a peek then checked the dipstick to make sure it was empty. It was full (about two times full) of sludge. When he pulled the drain plug, he had to poke a wire in to get it to ooze out. By far the nastiest mess I've ever seen come from an engine. They did send a truck to pick it up. It was supposed to be the next day, but no one showed up until the day after. They wouldn't send a replacement until they got theirs back and verified it. So I ordered from JDM Dallas and they shipped out that day. I had the new engine installed by the time the truck came to pick up the bad one, so I just got a refund from Texas JDM. I wasn't happy with the engine they sent, but at least I got my money back.
