Never seen a Gen 5 on the road

We went with silver because it was free. I loved the yellow but not available as an option on our trim. When it arrived, we were surprised that it was actually very nice, as its got a lot of metal flake in it, so very nice up close.

Then again, we're millennials and I've recently discovered that apparently millennial gray is a thing

 

What's the paint code on that silver? It should be shown on the decal in driver's door opening. I suspect it's a bit different, from what I've read here.

Just curious: gen 3 silver is Classic Silver Metallic (1F7), and that appears to also be the colour of our silver rims, bothe OEM 17" we have, and a set of PIP 15" I snagged, using with snows.

Silver was not our first choice either; it just happened to be the colour of a way-at-the-back of the lot 2010 Touring (CDN level), with the 17" rims, LED headlights, etcetera. In hindsight it was a good pick: we were looking for a Blizzard Pearl, dodged a bullet there: it was a pricey extra charge, and that colour started peeling for a lot of owners.

I just saw another black Gen 5 with a light bar tonight. It looked amazing from the back with the light bar against the black silhouette! Black Gen 5 with the light bar could be the candidate for the best-looking car at night! It is the K.I.T.T. of the 2020s!

As for the downside, the light bar is not available on the LE/SE.

 

I think that's the most positive thing you've ever said about the G5! Two exclamation points and a bold word is quite an endorsement. No sarcasm here - it's good to see you being nice towards the G5 without following it up with critique or ridicule.

 

heck - if Folks truly want the clown car look - you could always have a DIY Light bar - front AND back

Nothing special for you guys but I just came back from a one week trip mostly Michigan and NY and saw around 4 during this time. Red, gray and white. The white one was in the night in Manhattan and looked especially cool. As for the countryside, I can definitely understand how people feel lost in the P5 between all the huge trucks on the street.

as for trucks - surprisingly I saw 5 cybertrucks already. Didnt expect them to be out in these numbers already...

 

Yeah, I hate those kinda light bars. LOL

 

I'm firmly convinced that Wind Chill Pearl was the "showcase color" for the G5 Prius. It continues to blow me away how beautifully it accentuates the design lines. Black is the complete opposite, camouflaging most of the angles. Black is a great color to spruce up a boring sedan. I had a black G4. But the styling on the G5 is a work of art, and some of the touches are quite subtle. This is why from a distance the expression is more muted.

I've never seen a red G5 in person, but I'm guessing it isn't too far behind when clean from photos.

This is how I would rank the colors for maximum design pop:

White
Red
Silver/Blue? (Silver might have the edge)
Gray
Black

*EDIT* I forgot about yellow. I'd have to see it at night, but it likely goes behind red unless it really sparkles.

 

The G5 white is Wind Chill Pearl. Blizzard pearl was the G3 (and maybe G4) white. (unless it is different outside the US)

I figured that, but, well, I've had both colors, and the new Wind Chill Pearl is just as you described it.

 

I finally saw my first Gen 5 in my own state

I really haven’t seen one locally until yesterday turning out of Sam’s club, honestly didn’t know what it was until I saw its badge and label

 

@Rmay635703 : it is a bit of a surprise the first time! In my case the car was coming from behind on the highway and the distinctive running lights got my attention early so I got the full gawk experience as it passed.

Obviously, for some reason that I can not fathom, Toyota has chosen to not export very many of the 5th generation Prius to the United States. I have driven my '23 Prius for 16 months in several states from Texas to Nevada & Colorado. i have seen a total of 2 of the latest generation Prius.
Does anyone know why Toyota has chosen this withholding of such a wonderful car from the US market?

 

No official reasons but it’s not hard to know why.

Automotive downtown (especially on more expensive vehicles)

Higher Price

Higher Interest Rates

Few people can get a traditional auto loan at the moment either (originations are way down)

Various market decentives for vehicles assembled outside the US

The supposed death of the car form factor (sedans, coupes, hatch)

 

The funny thing about the US is that the EV incentives and now used EV prices there are down a lot. So it probably pushes people to the EVs rather than PHEVs and hybrids.

I've started seeing a lot more where I live though, even though Canada has a lower allocation than the US. Though its probably regional at the end of the day. California probably has more of them, like they have more EVs in general for example.

But yeah, the rates are up for loans and economy is softening, though I think its softer up here in Canada than down in the US right now. And I'm still seeing more of them though all probably gotten before the stop sale, of course, I doubt thats been lifted for cars at port or on dealer lots waiting on recall repair.

 

Production and sales did stop for a few months because of the safety recall on the rear doors, on top of other mentioned issues. Then Toyota wasn't planning on importing many here before that.

PHEVs can qualify for the US tax credits. Toyota just has to move production to North America.

 

Toyota is sending plenty of pickups here, and they're breaking. Some recalls....not a good look for Toyota. Nissan is beating the snot out of them.
There are more pickups sold here than ALL of the hybrids and EVs combined. And lots of them are big as hell. The drivers cannot see a row of six kids sitting on a curb in front of them. 9 out of 10 will never see a day's work.
I see a new Prius about every week here. They go by so fast i have no time to gawk at them.

 

Saw a red one for the first time last week and it did. not. disappoint! Wow! Definitely an AWESOME color to pick if you're in the market.

White and Red are the winners IMO.
