Back in 2017 a fellow forum member @tamerlano created the thread below.

    https://priuschat.com/index.php?threads/187295/

I remember reading it but could never find the product and it was still hard to find even today.

Well now I am excited to say I am an owner of one of these and can not wait to do my oil change even more now.

I was happy with the K&N oil filter I was using and never had any problems.

    The K&P oil filter is another level though. 20240602_171850.jpeg 20240602_171926.jpeg 20240602_171948.jpeg 20240602_172035.jpeg 20240602_172532.jpeg 20240602_172547.jpeg 20240602_172203.jpeg

The last picture says what I can clean it with like kerosene, carb cleaner or even dish soap, wont know how long it takes to clean it until I install it and then wait 5k miles.

Last filter I will need so no more waste and just need to buy the oil now.

    How did you match it?
I typed in the toyota part number, and it said no match found.
Same for K&N filter, and every other one.....

Last filter I will need so no more waste and just need to buy the oil now.

Other than kerosene, carb cleaner or even dish soap (now contaminated with oil), which isn't supposed to be put into used oil recycling containers since they are solvents.

Interesting. I thought those type filters were mostly for 'show' engines like Harley Davidson, where everything is exposed and pretty-ness matters.
Any idea what the micron rating is for it? I didn't see it mentioned anywhere in the photos. There's a lot of light coming through the filter from the light source on the other side of the mesh. Would be interesting to have it in one of those multi-brand filtration test you-tube videos.

'Higher flow' and 'better filtration' rarely belong in the same sentence.
A lot of people said that about the K&N air filters, until they realized a lot of fine dirt was getting into the engines because the filters required higher maintenance than the typical owner would do, and they weren't really meant for using on everyday cars.

    I hope it works out.

Figured it out. The "instructions" say to NOT us any spaces or dashes.
But they also say to type it exactly as it is on the box.....
It works without the dash for the toyota filter...

The microns are on one of the pages I read on the web page
$109 is a lot for a filter. I have 12 Toyota filters left. So that's 60 weeks of filters left.
Maybe by Christmas 2025 they price will come down.... And it "might" be worth it.(n)

These have been around for years.
The stainless mesh is a 100% catch rate for the micron rating vs paper thats 80-90% after multiple passes.

Not sure its really needed on a prius though, haha

I read people's words online who say this a lot... many people... what is it about a Prius that makes you say it's not needed?

It's like the argument that OEM brake rotors and pads are fine... they last forever... why replace them with cross-drilled and slotted, it's not a performance car... is what people say who cant say they have even installed brakes on a Prius, let alone Cross Drilled with Ceramic Pads and yet, because its a Prius.... anything more than OEM isn't needed? how sway? Can you elaborate on at least you're usage of the words I quoted?

Side note, anyone who says cross-drilled and slotted with ceramic pads are worthless on a Prius, nothing they say after should be trusted... IMO

Yes $109 shipped to my door may be a lot but thats about 10 K&N filters and I would still have to buy more after that.

Not anymore with the K&P filter, clean and done. Screenshot_2024-06-03-16-58-38-1.jpeg

    No need.

I'll just keep using the Toyota OE spin on's after the conversion.

As for recycling, I'll just cut open the cans and recycle the metal.

If you DIY, the satellite waste collection facilities in SC all have an oil collection area. Each area typically has 350 gallon totes set up for used oil, 55 gallon drums set up for receiving oil filters and another set up for receiving oil bottles/containers. The filters all go to recycling where they're basically crushed to remove most of the oil and sent to a shredder where metallics are separated from non-metallics for recycling. Unless you just like to inspect the element, let them do the recycling work for you. Cutting filters is just an injury waiting to happen, and I don't heal nearly as quickly as I used to. All my used oil goes right back into an original 5 qt container and then I just swing by the local waste facility 2 miles from the house while doing errands. Dump the oil in the tote, drop the container in the drum if I don't want to keep it, drop the filter in the filter drum and then carry on with errands. 3 minutes of my life gone forever......but everything's in its proper place.

You should do an oil analysis before installing the filter and after your first oil change with the filter, to see any different in the metals captured. The company I use is Blackstone Labs (Blackstone Laboratories Blackstone Laboratories) and they will send you the sample collection bottles free, you only pay when you send in a sample to be analyzed.

Did my oil change yesterday and installed the reusable oil filter.

Seems to get to higher RPM's faster and the car moves quicker but quieter.

There is more space around the new filter allowing more oil to flow through.

Versus how the K&N filter would fill the entire oil housing.

In 5,000 miles will upload how it looks at the next oil change. 20240811_112837.jpeg 20240811_114209.jpeg 20240811_113010.jpeg 20240811_113207.jpeg 20240811_114049.jpeg 20240811_113219.jpeg

I'd watch this video before using that filter. My choice is to stick to the Toyota filter.

I wanted this reusable filter so I do not have to buy oil filters anymore.

The brand they tested is unknown.

This K&P filter is medical grade type 304 stainless steel 35 micron.

If there was a shortage or companies closed down or there was a societal collapse, I could still keep my car running by simply washing my oil filter.

I will also be switching my oil to the new Valvoline restore and protect on my next oil change.
