if it turns out to be the battery, reconditioning is whack a mole. how long do you plan to keep the car?
are they a full service hybrid shoppe, capable of replacing brake actuator, inverter, or cleaning the egr circuit?

They just ran a diagnostic for free. Thankfully, they said my hybrid battery looks good! The codes that came up were P148F (Engine coolant Pump Over Revolution), U0073 (Control Module communication Bus off) U0129 (Lost communication with Brake System Control Module), and U0126 (Lost communication with steering angle sensor module).

Could the Engine coolant pump be responsible for the car not going into drive or reverse?

The upstate place seems useless actually. Took it to a place that ran a diagnostic for free.

Reconditioned batteries are not quite a scam, but they also aren't a long-term fix.

The fundamental economic problem here is that you can pay x to get another 6-12 months by using a reconditioned battery, or you can pay about 2.5x to get another 10-12 years by using a new battery.

Sadly there aren't really any steps in between.

The pump is more than likely Not the reason the Prius wouldn't go into drive or reverse, unless the thing that is wrong with the pump is causing the other modules to loose communication with each other.

It's hard to explain this, but I'll try anyway. The computers not being able to send messages back and forth to each other is more than likely the reason the Prius will not go into drive or reverse.

I wouldn't try to guess what is causing the codes as that is all I can do without the repair manual.
The codes are very helpful though and if by chance one of the Gen 3 Prius tech guys that have access to the manual see this or one of your other threads, they may be able to find a common link between the codes you listed above.

If the tech that scanned your car was able to get the 3 or 4 digit ( INF codes) that usually accompany many of the diagnostic trouble codes ( dtc ) you listed above.

auto technicians use those INF codes to help narrow the search for the main source of an issue in these complex cars.

If you want to get access for 2 days to the repair manual for you year and model Prius
The repair manual used by dealerships is available to you to access on the internet and print out
with a standard subscription for 2 days at $25

    https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInfoPortal

It's a much better resource than google or youtube. But those two other resources are good too.

I linked your other two threads so that anyone who was reading this thread would have the opportunity to go look at the other two threads that you created concerning the problem that you have with your car.

It means that it is very confusing for anyone to help you with your car when you now have three separate threads started. There is information in three threads that need to be read and put together to get a complete picture of what is happening with your car.

Please do not start any new threads for the current problem that you have with the car.

Or you can get 3 years or more off a reconditioned battery like I did on a G2 model.....they are not ALL bad.

You have no clue if you never bought or used one one...you are just mimicking what others say here.

Now I'm just deciding whether to take it today to my mechanic at the mobil station around the corner and trust that the codes might mean something to him or take it a guy a little further away tomorrow who told me he owns two prius' and has the more sophisticated code machine tomorrow. (Sorry I don't know the correct language for all this.)

so only your experience counts, and others who have reported bad experiences are... what?

it often helps to have the appropriate scanner and access to the service manual, but the mobil guy might get lucky, and the hybrid guy may or may not know what he's doing.

Think about it...every time anyone comes here to ask a question you guys give the most negative answers possible. Your head gasket WILL blow if you have 150k miles and don't clean the egr every 50k...then someone comes along with 280k that has never touched theirs and have no problems,. Then if you buy a rebuilt battery it WILL fail within 6 months...as though these are absolute facts. Then someone like me that had good success with a $500 rebuilt battery (and surely plenty more out there that have also,) and I was "just lucky" . You have no statistics to back up your comments other that what people have said on here.....and here is where people come when they have a problem. People don't come here to tell you they never had any blown head gasket or that they had a good experience with a rebuilt battery, so you (we) here are getting all the bad stories, probably almost none of the good ones because people are happy and going about their business with no need to look up PC for advice.

It would probably be inaccurate to assert that all rebuilt/reconditioned packs are guaranteed to fail within 6-12 months. All we know is that at least some of those packs have given up the ghost within that time frame.

A few of them have gone on to describe the hoops they had to jump through to claim the warranty, whether the expense of those jumps negated any initial savings over the OE pack, and whether said warranty was ultimately honored.
Review Of Green Bean Battery 2/5 * | PriusChat

As far as I know, nobody has shared any reports of OE battery packs giving out in less than 8-10 years.

For someone at a crossroads, the decision ultimately boils down to their risk tolerance.

Take it to the Prius owner that has the scan tool that can read all the trouble codes for your Prius!

Trouble code P148F triggers when your engine coolant pump is rotating faster than it should be rotating. This indicates that the pump needs to be replaced. Has the high coolant temperature warning light ever come on?

The U0xxx communication trouble codes are going to be much harder to diagnose and fix.
