I've done the screen protector for the info-tainment screen and love the oleophobic properties, scratch protection, and especially the gloss look. That being said, has anyone did a similar glass screen protector for the gauge cluster? I have one on the way (Amazon), but it was for the BZ4X. I'm not sure if its screen is the same dimensions but the BZ4X protector was half the price of the one I found for the Prius. I can see for the touch screen but I find it unnecessary for the gauge cluster. I actually find it unnecessary for the touch screen as well.
Update: this does NOT fit the Prius. It is the same shape as the Prius but larger in all dimensions. Will NOT work.
Personally, a simple stick on one (not one of those glass types) would be something I'd throw on there myself. Just in case you have something abrasive on the microfibre when you wipe it down while cleaning and end up with a scratch you'll never get out of the darn thing that bothers you for the life of car ownership. Some even have anti-glare properties that might be better than the factory coating. It also helps avoid someone cleaning your car, that isn't you, using the wrong product and messing up the screen since not all cleaners are safe on screens. If there were custom cut stick on things for 5-10 bucks, why not.
I have one that more or less fits except the bottom part. It was a bit more reflective than without the screen protector and thought I'd hate it but I like it. I got it because I'd hate an accidental scratch and for $10 it was a good piece of mind. I also might need to remove the cluster down the line and for the life of me cannot find a used one at scrap yard that isn't scratched on the screen which leads me to believe they tend to scratch somewhat easily. I got mine off Aliexpress but I wouldn't recommend it due to the fit. One corner is a couple mm off and the bottom could have gotten deeper to cover up to or under the bottom dash trim.
Scratches from cleaning it. Same reason for the one on the info-tainment screen. Pretty much just OCD. Kept my last vehicle for 20 years and the interior looked nearly new with almost 180k miles.
375K miles on my '99 4X4 Tacoma taking it offroad many times. Cluster still looks new, as with every car I've ever owned over 50 yrs. Still don't see a need but it's your car, do what you want.
There is a company called the ocd plug that makes car screen protector. They made a screen protector specifically for 5th gen prius. It may not be glass though, they have it both for the gauge cluster and infotainment and it is matte. I am considering of getting it myself just because I'm afraid that I'm going to scratch the screen lol and the cluster somewhat reflects onto the windshield at night which kinda annoys me
I'm gonna look at this one. When it comes to glass, and LCD screens small imperfections are very noticeable and can make reading the screens hard. When its plastic and physical gauge clusters, I find its actually easier to deal with small scratches. I don't think I need a glass screen protector, so these look great. Thanks for the tip!
Look, some of us just have very bad luck with screens over the years becoming scratched, or hazed, or have kids who will throw things because they're barely toddlers and we want a little extra protection. It sounds crazy, but for the niche people who have had bad experiences and are anxious, $20 is cheap, and a new screen is not.
