Thought past generations were governed to something like 105mph. There were reports of people caught around that speed.

The perils of "modern" websites. Having clicked the above link:

    1. up pops a request to disable my ad-block (necessity for browsing priuschat).
    2. having found and chosen "continue without supporting us", another pop-up requesting I "sign up for something" appeared. Declined that.
    3. page froze, could not scroll.
    4. refreshing the page (Priuschat reflex action since maybe last December), all good.

Now on to the article. :)

Wow....sorry the Web site jerked you around. I spent a few "formative" years in San Francisco/Northern California in my late teens/early 20s so I read the SFGate Web site a few times a week. Lots of ads, like on lots of Web sites, but nothing particularly annoying. They are part of the whole SF Chronicle/Hearst corporate mishmash.

There are many accessories on offer for lifting the mpg limit.

    1. AT&T(and others) are forgiven for their data breaches.
    2. Tesla tests new software on their employees; then a small number of other customers, <10%, and finally, general release.
    3. Before there was Prius SMUG, there was Macintosh and Linux.

"I am told" that both of my company G3s were electronically limited to 108.
The kids at C/D who actually measure such things logged 115mph in a G5.

I'm thinking that that the LEO was just guestimating a buck 20 when the chase went over 110.
It's relatively easy for someone to remove the VSS limit of most cars but most people who run from the fuzz are in a recently stolen ride or they have other hobbies in much different cars than a Prius.

I'm pretty sure they (LEO) were just embarrassed that they were out run and out maneuvered by a Prius. So they were just making up excuses.

I thought that it was agin the law for LEOs to chase criminals behind the Tinsel Curtain.

That would be funny if there didn't seem to be so many people actually believing some version of it.

Where I live it's always been you run - you get chased, and generally get caught.
If you're endangering the public, you get PIT'd.

LEO equals Law Enforcement Officer. Come to think of it, "cop" stems from Constable On Patrol if I'm not mistaken?

    PIT maneuver (precision immobilization technique)
Although it was explained TO ME as Pursuit Intervention Technique - which seems to be a more accurate description of what often happens at higher speeds.
This is why it IS sometimes prudent to end a pursuit and meet the creep at the house later.

We learned Tactical Vehicle Intervention in convoy training which was a little 'different' than the wiki page stuff.
