Hi. I have a 2017 Prius Prime Advanced. Toyota stopped posting navigation data update a few years ago. So I read the posts online and figured out that third parties are selling annual(?) updates on Amazon. I bought one for 2024. It seemed to have uploaded the new map, but when I drive to work, after a few miles of driving away from my house, the screen stops showing any streets. Is this because the upload from the microSD card is still in progress? Or did I not update the map correctly?
You might want to disconnect the 12v battery for a few minutes. This will reset all the systems in the car. It's possible the update left some bad data in memory. But in general, now that your car is seven years old, it'd be wise to switch to Apple or Google maps, which get updated in real time based on traffic congestion data and construction projects, which is way more reliable and safer than an old car's map system.
Thanks for your suggestion. How do I disconnect the 12V battery? Also, how do I connect Android Auto to the big screen on this car? I tried before and failed.
The 12V is under your hood on the driver's side. You want to loosen the nut holding the negative terminal (the one on the right of this pic, not the one under the red cover) and rotate and lift it straight up. Then I would lay it on a rag so it does not touch anything while you are waiting. After your delay, as quickly as possible, place it back on the post. You might see a spark, especially if you are slow / clumsy putting it back on, but this should not cause a problem. Then re-tighten the nut and you're good to go. You will have to reset the clock in the car after this procedure, but everything else should be okay.
I wonder if the microSD card that I bought (the only kind that I can find online) may be incompatible with my car (Prius Prime Advanced 2017). The microSD card says “86271 0E076”. I know that other Prius Primes, even from 2017 have smaller screens. Mine has a 11.6 in screen, and I read somewhere (I can’t find it now) that 11.6 in screen models require a different microSD than the others. I will contact Toyota again to find out exactly what I need to do. Last time I contacted them (about a year ago), I ended up talking to someone who insisted that my car was never meant to have navigation…obviously not true.
So does this mean that if I have a 2017 Advanced (with the large screen) that I cannot get an updated SD map card from Toyota, and third party is the only way to get a map update (or just use Google Maps on my phone).
I am afraid to tell you that I have no idea how this is supposed to work (or not). I got a reply from “Toyota Brand Engagement Center” who told me to ask my local dealer about it. Also told me to go to a hyperlink (misspelled) to the Toyota software update website which has a 2020 navigation update. Totally worthless answer. I wish someone from Toyota can tell us if an update to navigation data is available, and if so, how do we obtain it.
So I've been looking for a way to update my 2017 Prime Premium, which also has the 11.6 display. The cards advertised on Amazon, as far as my research tells me, do not work with the 11.6 display, and we need a "86271-GN8PR" card. But I've found no source cheaper than Toyota (generally $200-$220). Instead, I'm considering an Android Auto display to keep in the car, but figuring out how to place it without interfering with other things. Maybe even just stick it right on the 11.6...
