Good morning, everyone. I am new to this Priuschat. I just bought a 2014 Prius V wagon, and it has a rotten linkage right beneath the exhaust gasket due to water leaking out from the exhaust gasket joint for a long time, I believe. I would like to know if I need to replace this rotten linkage. I already replaced my exhaust gasket, so no more water is sipping out. And can someone please tell me the part number of the linkage, and if I don’t replace it, will I still be safe on the road? And what is the purpose of this linkage? Please see my first two photos from my Prius V wagon. The 3rd and 4th photos are from online, and I circled the linkage that I am referring to. If anyone has replaced it, is there a torque or procedure manual or diagram for it? If anyone has repaired it, any suggestions or video that I can watch? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'd recommend you check the Brackets that bar connects to on both sides. Than make sure you can break loose the bolts that hold the bar to the brackets. Than check these parts to see if they match what you've looked at while working on the car.

This part fits the vehicle you selected:
My Vehicle: 2014 Toyota Prius V United States Of America; ZVW41L-AXXEBA
    53605-47020 Genuine Toyota Brace Sub-Assembly, Rear S
    Toyota 53605-47020 Brace Sub-Assembly, Rear S

the part # for the Bracket and the Bar is above

the part # for the Bar and the bushings see below

    Toyota 53605-47021 Brace Sub-Assembly, Rear S
    53605-47021 Genuine Toyota Brace Sub-Assembly, Rear S

That brace must have been physically compromised for it to be consumed like that. Is the rust bad all over the undercarriage?

See my photos. I suspect the bar got rotten due to water continuously came out between exhaust gasket but that has been replaced. Can you tell me the purpose of this sub link bar? Don’t think it will break but if it does, any safety concern? The main frame black one behind has no rust. Thanks

Looks to be; the rear jacking point rust looks pretty advanced.

yes and I won’t use that rear Jack point to Jack up this prius ever for safety reason. Just wondering if prius v has left and right side Jack point? Or just front and back? The front one is rust free.

The rear axle looks nearly rust-free, which is odd. Maybe replacement?

Not sure what you could use instead of the rear jacking point. Maybe the solid rear axle. Go cautiously though. Maybe put a channel section under, spread the load.

South Main Auto guy (YouTube mechanic in upstate New York) has seen it all, uses phrases like "10 years around here and they're ready to be crushed". He orders salvage suspension parts from a wrecker in Florida, lol.

I've used boiled linseed oil as a rust arrester, might help, but some of that is advanced.

Our west coast BC, Canada, 1010 Prius. Low kms, garage-stored, and being retired we have the luxury of just staying off the roads when it's snowed and the municipality has turned the roads into salt licks. Plus multiple applications of boiled linseed oil:

The not exactly hidden cost of road salt. It's all washing into local streams too.

The parts are also called the
    Rear Suspension Brace Sub-Assembly

there would be more information about the parts and installation instructions in the repair manual.
