Scratches on top of rear bumper below tailgate

My 2022 came with a clear protective strip there.

 

Toyota could put one on, on all of them, at the factory.

Our Gen 3 was lucky enough to come with one (debatably included on Canadian Touring level), see attached.

For Gen 5 in North America Toyota offers a strip of clear film to go over that zone: pricey and useless enough I doubt they’ll get many takers.

it’s funny, that these painted black plastic fairings affixed fore and aft of vehicles these days, continue to be called bumpers.

 

Why not just buy the original Toyota accessory? It would (probably) cover the scratches and prevent new ones.

We got the version for our car and it works as advertised.

 

^Lost track, was thinking this was gen5 (plastic film). That does look more substantial. Still, these should be standard.

 

Well, the one for our car also came from Toyota's parts & accessories department, but it is different. It is best described as a bar of black milk-crate plastic, with some ridges and a 'TOYOTA' embossed on it faintly.

It has some adhesive cushion strips on the bottom. You clean your bumper paint very well, use alcohol wipes, let it all dry, and then stick the thing on.

It's been on there about six years now with no issues at all.

There appear to be totally generic ones on Amazon, many of them are much cheaper. They may or may not be the right length or curve.

I saw others that were soft rubber so they could be curved to fit anything. Looks like you have a bunch of options. Good luck!

 

Thresholds of the side doors are a similar story. Our Gen 3 Touring came with the illuminated metal sill protection; simple, milk crate composition protection would be cheaper, and age better I think.
