It's a Gen 5 2023 model, and started happening today where it randomly shuts off and comes back after a few seconds.

Wondering if a dealership visit is needed or something to fix at home?

You need a software update for your head unit. There's a TSB for it(T-SB-0041-23).

The update is covered under warranty so you can take it in and they'll do it for free. It's scheduled as a 36min job for warranty purposes, but plan for a couple hours at the dealership for processing and in case the tech can't get to your car right away.

I was going to upload the file so you could do it yourself if you wanted, but apparently you need the more expensive subscription to access the files themselves. But I'll still attach the TSB so you can see it and you'll know what to ask for when you contact your dealership.

You might also try disconnecting the 12V battery for 30 min to reset the head unit to temporarily stop the rebooting. Then connect the car's wi-fi to either your home or turn your phone into a hotspot and connect the car to that. Then go into the infotainment menu and find the software update page and see if it can get the update on its own. No guarantee it will work, but it might save you a trip to the dealer. What you want is to update the multimedia version to 1586 or higher. If it's currently less than 1586, you need the update.

So head unit currently has 1436, and I got the output JSON for the Toyota software update page, but the software update page says it has the latest version and doesn't want to get the 1586. Strange.
