Should I change 17 y/o brake fluid

I would open a bleeding valve at a time at the caliper and pump the brake pedal until the brake fluid coming out is the same color as the one I added, while keeping adding fluid in the reservoir so not to introduce air in the system. Best time is when changing/rotating wheels since it's easy to access the bleeding valve with the wheel off.

 

that's not toyota, that's a dealer putting words in toyotas mouth.
i wonder if gen 4 or 5 maintenance schedules have recommendations.

 

Read down through the many many search hits. The link was a Google search. Even if Toyota still doesn't give a recommendation brake fluid is hygroscopic and absorbs moisture. It's an industry recommendation not to go 17 years even if Toyota doesn't give a firm one.

I just change the fluid, pumped out through the bleeders, per the non-Techstream method, albeit with a baste out and refill of reservoir at the outset. A couple of times now, on our ‘10.

 

agreed, it is odd that they do not, i can't think of a reason
