I will be storing my new Toyota Prime Gen 5 for 2-3 weeks in a garage without access to an AC outlet for trickle charging. I'm concerned about the health of the 12V battery during this time.

    Here are my questions:

    1. Battery Drain During Storage: Will the 12V battery likely drain significantly after 2-3 weeks of inactivity?
    2. Toyota Care Roadside Assistance: If the battery does drain, will Toyota Care roadside assistance cover a jump start?
    3. Jump Starting with Portable Battery: In case of a dead battery, I have a portable jump starter. Can you clarify the location of the 12V battery (typically in the trunk or under the hood)? Additionally, could you provide instructions for safely connecting the jump starter to the positive and negative terminals?
    4. Alternative Charging Without Driving: Would periodically starting the car but not driving it helps? Which mode to let the car run?
    5. Other Options for Battery Maintenance (No AC Outlet): Are there other recommended methods for maintaining the 12V battery during storage without an AC outlet?
    Thank you for your assistance.

If you have a fully healthy 12V battery, you should be fine for 2-3 weeks. If you are really concerned about it, you can always disconnect the battery.

Owners manual covers the jump start method. And location, but seriously: you need internet advice to find the battery? ;)

The 12 V battery draining had always been a concern for me with my 3rd Gen Prius. I once left it for 3 weeks, and I had a difficult time starting it, even with a high-amp booster. It was a bit disturbing that the relays rattled and the lights blinked until it finally started. I vowed never to let that happen again, so I installed a battery maintainer, and found that a week-10 days was long enough to drain the battery otherwise.

When I got my Gen 5, I noticed the battery going dead much sooner than that, so I installed a NOCO 2 battery maintainer. That largely solved the problem until I began to experience much more rapid battery drain (once in as little as 2 hours). That problem seemed to be caused by a malfunctioning module in the system, and having the dealer reset the system, seemed to resolve the problem, at least to the point that it doesn't drain the battery in less than a day. I no longer take any chances, and plug in the battery maintainer when I park overnight.

    1. make sure your manual keys works
    2. Pop the hood and find your jump points - alternatively find your battery door in the trunk.
    3. You can either jump the car or disconnect the negative terminal on the battery. Either way you'll loose your presets.
    4. There's a main internal CPU fuse that can be pulled. It'll prevent all those pesky systems checks, but will also disable remote entry. Don't know which one that is on the Gen5, but on the gen4 - it supplies power to the internal fuse panel.

    hope this helps....

i would disconnect the 12v negative. letting the battery potentially run down is not god for it's health.

Yes. We all born with different capabilities. Some are good at finding batteries intuitively. Mine is to ask for help. :)

I think disconnecting the battery, or removing it is the only option in that circumstance.

Have your mechanic install a RV battery disconnect switch in your trunk and have him/her show your where the battery and jump points are on the car. Also have them show you the location of your jack & tire changing tools - You may not use them, but at least you know where they are if you end up in the boon-docks without cell reception.

For gen 5 Prius, at least for North American market, Toyota no longer supplies scissor jack or lug nut wrench. Part of their continuous improvement program I suppose.

I wouldn't do that for one good reason; it's a real pain to set up my profile again afterwards.
I've yet to be able to do it without a call to Toyota tech support.
    I prefer the battery maintainer.

No spare tire at all in mine. But my Gen 3 didn't have one either. Turns out I never needed one.

Been there, done that, several times. Popping the trunk is not an option with a dead battery, and neither is crawling inside to pull the manual release, at my age at least. Besides, once you are inside, pull the hood release, and the booster contact is inside the large fuse box.

The OP is parking the car in a garage w/o accessible AC power. What I've outlined is the only choices he's left with other than calling a tow truck to jump the car.
