Oil Catch Can, Eliminate that knock!

    I have seen your setup, beautiful.
    I am just wondering why relocating the PCV is not more talked about. do you see an issue with it.. any expert we can tag on this that you know of?

    also your OCC are small maybe 200cc capacity correct?
    the 750ml capacity one is around 20cmx6cm, I think it should fit well

    also since the M16x1.5 metric connection is hard to find in USA (aliexpress) has them
    we cab buy a new PCV for 7$ for the outlet of OCC and drill out the old one inside so it is wide open,

    once I buy my supplies I can check the PCV thread vs the OCC connection holes to confirm, worst case scenario I can get a M16x1.5 Tap and adjust it.


    2 other questions:

    1) Can brass connection okay to use instead of the PCV valve? they sell M16x1.5mm threaded to 10mm in both Brass and stainless steel for few $ more.

    2) I see people use all kind of hose from PCV to OCC , braided, fuel line etc but the guy in the video used heat shield around the fuel line.. is that an over kill?
    the fuel line should be able to handle the heat of the engine anyway, right?

    It's been mentioned here a few times. I just don't see a reason to.

    My Moroso cans came with SAE30R7, and it seems the way to go. It's usually available at local automotive specialty stores, by the foot. Heat shield doesn't seem necessary, just adds bulk/complexity.

    Yeah I think the usable interior volume's is maybe 2.5" dia by 2" high. And the catch in the jars (I posted) is about 2" dia by 1.5". Again, that was with about 5K kms. I think if I had just the first can, the volume collected by a second can would not have lingered in the first, would have ended up in the intake and beyond.

    This is to do with relocating the PCV valve? That's beyond my scope; I would just keep it simple. One thing I learned, "improving" things tends to take up more room, shift locations, and it's pretty crowded in there. ;)

    that is a valid point, the brass filter and surface area in the first can is not enough to grab everything, in that case just a bigger can might not help much.
    on the 2nd thought a 750ml can compared to 200ml is a big jump so hopefully the volume will let the gases cool more and condense.

    I've relocated my PCV valve to the catch can, it's on a hose from the original PCV valve location that's about 24 inches long.

    Sorry, I don't have any pics of the 180 degree 16 x 1 AN6(?) fitting I replaced the original PCV valve with at the engine block. It looks like the red one on the oil catch can, but instead of a 90 degree tube, it has a 180 degree u-tube on it because I need to reverse the direction of the hose to get to my selected OCC location next to the coolant reservoir.

    they are trying to avoid the return all together by airing it out and plugging the intake

    Looks like they disconnect/capped the hose that used to be where the air filter is. The other end of the capped off hose I'd guess goes to the intake manifold pcv connection? Maybe.

    It’s the 1960s way-dump crankcase fumes and pressure to the atmosphere.

    With a modern twist-soak the inverter and ecm in oil.

    so this works on our prius?

    if the intake manifold is capped we wont get vacuum and error?
    and the filter will just release the nasty stuff to the air...
    and perhaps the PCV will not let anything to go back to engine ..

    I'm surprised that the blue filter isn't thoroughly saturated with oil and dripping and possibly spraying (with forced air from the radiator fans or air rushing through the radiator at higher speeds) oil onto the surrounding areas.

    It will and the inverter and ecm fails will let you know. The 60s cars had a tube going down the firewall where it would dump under the car. If the engine has good rings and seals the blowby pressure will be minimal but later it’s a big oily mess.

    So, from what I understand, the PCVv is opened by vacuum and not pressure somehow. So, in this example, it's not venting at all. The PCVv might not even open at all. This could possibly even throw a code. The filter isn't venting the PCVv but instead adding fresh air into the mix. The filter is filtering new air.

    Actually a pcv is closed with high vacuum and flows at low vacuum. You don’t want pcv flow at idle.

    The primary purpose of a pcv valve is to relieve crankcase pressure which would otherwise blow seals and cause oil leaks. Crankcase pressure from combustion blowby will cause flow when the valve opens.

    The secondary purpose is to reduce emissions to the atmosphere that were required before pcv valves.
