TPMS Replacement

    Both he and Discount Tire did show me front driver's side had low battery so I am sure it is coming soon but had it died after I got the passenger's side replaced, shouldn't the TPMS light been flashing for a minute like it did before to indicate a bad sensor? Instead he returned it to me with a solid light without asking his peers or double checking on top of the now silly request for me to press the tire pressure button and drive around for a bit...seems like pretty poor customer service :confused:

    The batteries can go bad in less than a couple years. The drag is you have to pay to have the tire demounted then reinstalled & balanced

    For sure, though that wasn't the issue of the thread. I know the front two sensors were the original ones we got from the first owner about 10 years ago so they have definitely served their time, so I have no problem in paying what I need to in order to replace them...returning the car to me with basically a "new" warning light (brought in with blinking 1 min tire pressure light and given back to me with solid tire pressure light) was the frustration here...either way, glad it is fixed and my wife won't complain for a while.

    FWIW, Discount Tire is not bad. I'm sad they refused to replace for you. What I've seen:
    1) Anybody can go to their tire pressure stand (typically outside and/or one of the service doors) and get pressure corrected AND get TPMS reprogrammed, takes seconds, no charge.
    2) If you purchase your own TPMS and ask nicely, they will install for the cost of a dismount/remount. $10 total. (Yes, if a totally different configuration you would want a rebalance as well.)

    I'm not frustrated with Discount Tire, they have patched many tires for free over the years. Maybe I could've gone back with the new TPMS that the other shop installed but as for #2, at least from my encounter, even if I had brought my own sensor, Discount Tire rep said they absolutely would not work on that wheel since the tire I mounted was too old even though treads are totally fine..

    You only have to break the bead on the side where the monitor is.
    You replace it, the put air back in it. It will usually seal easily since it had already
    been seated and in that position for a while.
    So no need to balance the tire. Other than the new monitor could be a different weight.
    Likely not enough to effect the balance. And if you get lifetime balance and rotation,
    it won't cost you anything.
