Our Country in sadly in need of Leadership:

Gas War: 25 States Sue EPA Over Updated Emissions Regulations (msn.com)

"Over two dozen states have joined forces to sue the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) over proposed vehicle emissions regulations put forward by the Biden administration in March. Grievances include claims that the executive branch is unconstitutionally manipulating the marketplace by setting requirements higher than manufacturers can adhere to, effectively mandating sales of electric vehicles that have been broadly unpopular in the United States. Additionally, the states have alleged these changes would hurt domestic employment while simultaneously raising the average price of vehicles. "

    Good luck with that.
Unconstitutional is determined by the nitwits on the Supreme Court, not by automobile manufacturers.
Leadership is determined by the voters, or more likely the electoral college

iirc - the issue is more about Congress being bypassed when the executive branch just makes a decree. the whole separation of powers thing. It's supposed to be in times of emergency

You are right in my opinion.

    When 1/2 the country is suing because of an executive decision a rational human would probably realize there is some sort of problem;
    especially with leadership,
    consensus building,
    cooperation,
    inclusion of all stakeholders
and likely success of the mandate.

idk why you think those things are new problems. they have been problems forever in our country, and in the history of the world.

    correct-
and good leaders know how to overcome those problems with proper leadership, inclusion, consensus building, cooperation and obtain buy in for the mutual good of the Country.

Leaders in Industry and Corporations do those type things almost daily to build their Companies success.

It is for transportation, but cruise ships aren't burning all that fuel for transportation. People don't get on the ship, then sit in their cabin until they get to the destination; it isn't a like comparison. Need to include the lodging, food, and entertainment with the others to get that.

I like this, "EPA chief Michael Regan had previously said the new rules absolutely do not create any mandate for manufacturers to adopt electric vehicles. However, some of the manufacturers have stated the opposite (claiming they couldn't possibly comply without widespread electrification)." Are these the manufacturers without plug ins saying this, or the ones without a decent hybrid? Pretty sure anything getting around 50mpg now will meet the 2027 CO2 targets, if not exceed it.

Congress gave the EPA the job of regulating tailpipe emissions and fleet fuel economy already. Grams of CO2 per mile is just another unit for MPG. The EPA tests actually measure MPG by calculating it from the CO2 measured out the tailpipe.

The EPA has a well documented MPG to MPGe conversion process. But I prefer to use $/100 mi.
    • Local gas cost for MPG
    • Local electricity cost for MPGe

They do, but it is a long way from requiring testing tailpipe emissions for pollutants, and somebody saying, 'hey, we can use the carbon measurement to measure fuel use."

they don't have to deal with congress. some presidents may be perceived to be great leaders, but that is usually fairly partisan.
corporate leaders usually have a sell by date. it is often hard to determine if it is leadership, or product, which also has a lifecycle.
similarly in sports, leaders may be great one day, and be shown the door the next

It is sad when even older grownups don't know their Country's history.

The USA has a long legacy of good leaders throughout its history - in my short 70 year life I can name 3 Presidents who would be considered great leaders, 2 of them arguably included among the most influential and great leaders of all the Presidents. Both from different Political Parties.

Good Leadership is a highly sought after commodity, a Country or even a Company cannot prosper without it.

One of the current presidential candidates is promising a whole lot more executive power grab, and more rule by imperial decree instead of consensus building and cooperation, than we have now.
