Hi I’ve been following these forums for a decade now. My 2012 Prius with 119,460 miles needing a brake booster assembly and brake master cylinder. Parts, labor and taxes it’s $2700. I went to a couple of local shops and either it will be more or they don’t feel like they can do the work. Reading on future issues I’m tempted to trade in. My options seem to be: 1. Repair- I’ve owned this since brand new. 2. Trade in and get a new model. 3. Trade and get a Ford maverick I would like some advice from some previous Prius owners. Thanks
if you haven't already, the head gasket might need replacing at some point, possibly the whole engine. no one can predict it, but if you can afford to, i'd get the maverick.
I know I’m usually getting mulch and pine straw for the yard twice a year. Currently using my Prius to make trips to get items . Also the maverick hybrid engine makes it very close in mpg. I work from home so not really worried about a slight dip in mpg.
You need to dump the generation 3 You could risk it on a later model generation 4 but that may be as much of a risk you'll find out for get something like a bolt I'm not sure what's up with the Maverick Is that electric or hybrid or something certainly a Ford is not going to be in the gas mileage arena.
If you keep it do a full EGR (including intake manifold) cleaning ASAP. It's a little late in the day, but not by much.
You will get more for a gen3 repaired than needing a brake booster. The value goes way down otherwise. Fix the booster and then sell it privately. Buy the car you want.
I'm also considering a Maverick.hybrid mostly because as I get older it gets more difficult to get into and out of the Prius. The Maverick sits up higher..I know the gas mileage isn't as good as the Prius, but it's not bad. I'd rather have the Rav4 Prime, but not for $40k-50k. I'm still good to keep the Prius another 2-3 years though...who knows what will be available by then?
