Wireless Dongle

Usually, a wireless dongle is to give a USB port a wireless connectivity, otherwise it will just be a signal repeater. Is that what you're trying to do? But by saying you want to avoid the wire clutter, I would assume no. So the USB port does need to have a data chanel, not just power for it to act as a real wireless dongle.

 

To confirm, See if you can play music in your car that's on your phone via a USB on AUX setting on car stereo on both of them...

 

And you want it to work in your rear seat USB plug so you don't have to have dongle clutter as well as wire clutter?

Perhaps see if there's a function in your stereo that allows you to switch from the two different USB inputs? It seems nonsensical that the USB in back seat wouldn't have the same AUX hardwire as the one in front?

 

Not if the intention is to simply supply power to back seat passengers' devices. Saves Toyota some pennies that way.

 

So did Telsa. The rear Typed C USB are just for power, in my 2021 at least. I don't know if the new one with the rear screen is the same.

 

I'd agree with you if this was an older Prius but they can't do that in a 2022 Prime where they claim that they're just as advanced as other automakers when it comes to entertainment system?

 

Are other auto makers allowing back passengers to plug in phones and playing music over the car speakers, or other things that would require transferring data between the car and phone?

 

That's because before Gen5 Toyota designers got worse and worse at not being fun and they didn't have any friends or family who will actually go anywhere with them so they never considered the value of being able to play DJ from the back seat... They drive everywhere alone. It's why they all got fired soon as they started designing Gen5.

PS: This is an easy fix... Just extend the length of wires to each USB socket and then swap them out. It's pretty easy to run wires under the center arm wrest. I'd charge 90mins for a job like that.

PPS: Or even easier just pull out that front USB port and put your dongle in it and hide it behind the dash and plug up that USB hole with some plastic or upholstery.

 

Yes... They also offer screens on the backs of the front seats. Go look at the features on most big SUVs.

 

Is the Prius a big SUV? Is there screens back there for the passengers? How often does a typical Prius owner have adult passengers back there? A person likely to share their play list in the cover probably has a cord long enough to reach the front outlets.

In the interest of squeezing profits, Toyota puts off upgrading tech in cars as long as they can. It was years after everyone have went to 6 speed autos or CVTs when they dropped the 4 speed from the Corolla. Again, it was years after direct injection was the norm for the industry that we got DS4. And you're whining about not having data ports in the back. Trying to drum up business for yourself?
