I have a new dashcam, and I'd like to power it from the overhead console instead of running a wire up the pillar.
Any tips on how to get in there?

    The panels just pop off.

Note: Only trims with the auto-dimming mirror have the necessary power leads, others should run down the a pillar to the fuse box.

The fitcamx comes with the appropriate wiring harness, and I believe Dongar sells one for one USB power output for other brands. The prime will work no matter the model, my SE is fine with the fitcamx, no issues.

Note that the only way to have parking mode enabled on a dash cam is to run it down the a-pillar for wiring since the piggyback adatper for TSS power will only work when the car is on or in acc mode.

All Primes have the connector by the mirror, not just the auto dimming ones?

I believe I will be running a wire up from the fuse box to the upper console. I have some small connectors I can use for connecting the dash cam and the radar detector.

I was just investigating this earlier this week. I posted in this forum about the wiring on the 10pin connector but no responses. I found a constant 12V there (upper left viewed from rear) but couldn't find one on only for ACCY. Perhaps I just needed to put the car into READY. But beware of all the 12v battery drain issues. I think I'm going to to buy a LiFePO4 jump starter and wire it up as the parking mode power supply.

The Canadian one does. I have an SE and that's how I installed my fitcamX without issue.

Only things I need to go back and fix are the a pillar clips that don't hold as tight as if they were new, next time at the parts desk I'll grab those, and the rear camera wire can be seen through the black shroud of the hatch glass since it touches it when routed through the metal cavity.

Good to know! I wired mine the old fashion way to the 12V outlet but I'd be down to change it eventually. At the time there wasn't much info but thanks for confirming it!

I bought the Viofo A229 Duo dashcam, but I hired the installation done. Unfortunately it mounts on the windshield at such a steep angle that it's impossible to read what's on the screen. I had to some special rigging (pics to follow).
Tip: don't use this dashcam on a Prius with the steeply sloping windshield.

Is the overhead map lighting fixture a simple pull down? Or is there a trick to removing it from the roof/headliner?

I'm wondering if for those who do not have the powered mirror hookups, if there's a tappable switched source in the overhead map lighting area.

I install a Wolfbox G850 as dash and digital rearview mirror.
Is a cheaper option and cover the issue to the small rearview mirror and also double down as a dash cam.

I was able to install it myself and add a usb type A power adapter so I don't have too use the type C or 12V ports.
I was able to hide all wires and adapter behind the rearview mirror casing.
