I have a 2015 Prius, just under 150,000 miles. About time to get this egr system cleaned up. But I really can't do it myself, and I don't exactly trust a mechanic to do it since they can just say they did it without actually doing it.

So, just seeing if anyone in Utah (SLC) would be willing to do it with me there? I would pay what a mechanic would charge.

Or If anyone knows of any shops that do a good job on this in the area, please let me know!

If anyone steps forward, I wouldn’t doubt they won’t accept your money. Definitely watch what they’re doing, and you can help with the cleaning.

150k is getting into “better late than never” territory, hopefully still helps.

If you get a chance, get some before-cleaning pics and post. It’s tricky in particular to get properly exposed pics of the interior of the EGR cooler; auto-exposure tends to be misled by the shiny metal end flanges.

see top two links in my signature. On a phone turn it landscape to see signatures.

there’s a list of shops doing EGR cleaning here:

Not vetted, abysmally short, and none I think near Utah, but take a look.

Thanks for the reply! All great advice, which I will do.

Yeah I read through that thread, unfortunately nothing near me.

It's kind of crazy to me that there seem to be so few shops around that do this, given the extent of the problem, and the number of Priuses around!

Hopefully I can find someone to help out!

Before you go to all the work of cleaning the EGR system, check the EGR flow that you have per the thread linked below. Maybe it does not need to be cleaned yet.

If you purchase a cooler from a junk yard, then you can just swop it.
And clean the other one at your leasure, for the next time.
With that mileage, you're do. But since it's a 2015, it might not be as
bad as the other model years.

If you get a second EGR cooler, clean it FIRST, then swap it. Depending on the methods used to clean the cooler, it usually needs hours, if not days to clean.
