Featured Can't Charge an EV at Home, at Work, or for Free? Don't Buy One

I would hope so, as it would be ideal and benefit everyone.

My thoughts are that I'm not going to be able to make such changes and don't understand how anyone else could either. Instead I'm just going to do my best at the kind of job that makes the most sense for me and my goals. If society doesn't want to pay me enough to buy my own home, then so be it.

In 1939 when it was enacted. Minimum wage was 25¢ per hour, compared to the national average of 30¢. A person working full time would make $520 per year and a couple could make $1040. Houses cost between $3,800 and $6,400 back then. Even an average home of $5,100 with a 6% interest mortgage and 20% down was $24.50 per month, just a bit more than half of one minimum wage worker's monthly salary. A mortgage on a $3,800 home was closer to 45% of the wages of one minimum wage worker.

Compare that to an average home price now of some $412,000. Without taxes and insurance, and with 6% interest and 20% down that equates to $1,976 per month, much more than what a federal minimum wage worker would make, or $1,257 per month.

 

So much about EV charging.

 

My question is if EV's charge minimum wage or not.

 

Some CCS-1 chargers had an initial plug-in charge, a 'minimum fee.' This was followed by either a time or kWh based incremental billing. Some CCS-1 networks offer a monthly subscription fee for a lower time/kWh rate.

After early testing, I avoid CCS-1 charging because it is more expensive than SuperChargers per mile. As for CCS-1 cars using SuperChargers, there is no mandatory plug-in fee. However they can get he lower cost charge rates are available if they pay a monthly fee.

I found a 2019 Chevy Bolt with 80k miles for $9k. Apparently there are no accidents reported, the battery life is higher than average but the only bad point is it being advertised as having an open recall.

Now, if only I had a place to plug the thing in.

 

Maybe check to see if the open recall is battery replacement. What could be better than an 80k mile car with a brand new battery ...
