LOL That might be helpful. I spent considerable time working through the settings in the informational display trying to find the setting for notification sounds for the LDA. I couldn't feel the vibration in the steering wheel (my husband can), and I'm used to the tone on the HyCam. The manual was some help, but it still required going through the (extensive) list of settings from the steering wheel controls.

My safety systems stopped working in mild snow conditions on an interstate in Colorado. No big deal, but the cameras/radar were completely clear at the start of the drive, and stopped working 10 minutes into the drive.

Conditions: right around freezing, overcast, not a lot of actively falling snow.

Driving surfaces: arterial signaled highway 40-45 mph driven at 35-45 mph, and interstate highway 60-65 mph driven at 55-65 mph. No piles of snow but some small amounts at intersections and on shoulders. Wet and fully plowed roads. Low traffic, not following any other cars closely.

I didn’t really need the dynamic cruise control, but orange lights and error messages let me know that most of the driver and safety aids had stopped working. I also didn’t drive directly through any snow, so I assume water and dirt caused the failure, not actual snow or ice. The car had been recently washed and has no accumulated dirt from driving, so almost all of the buildup was likely from driving on the local arterial roads.

When parking, the cameras were barely obscured and were still usable for parking, with yellow error messages warning about visibility. Both parking and safety messages were no longer showing after letting the car sit parked for an hour, since the liquid water beaded off and cleared the sensors and cameras. Also, some models (at least Prime XSE Premium with Advanced Parking) can wash the rear view camera with an auto-sprayer, controllable with the multimedia display.

To be clear, all of this is working as designed, and the car (over)communicated the problem effectively. The multifunction display even says to check the manual for an explanation, which mentions this issue.

You said it was right around freezing. I'm guessing a thin layer of ice built up on the front bumper sensors leading to the errors. At a later point, the temps warmed up just enough to melt the ice before you checked it at your destination(or you drove through an area that had been salted or treated with a deicing solution that got transferred to the bumper). I don't think the system can clear the errors without shutting down the car and restarting, which is why the system didn't turn back on after the ice melted.

That's my guess, at least. I've never had an error while driving due to snow, but noticeable ice accumulation will do it every time.

Sounds about right. Our roads never use salt, so it’s definitely accumulated water/ice/dirt.

My Limited (not Prime) has the washer on the rear camera, and it is really useful in our weird Kansas weather. I haven't taken her out in heavy weather, but with splashed mud and gunk, it works perfectly.

I have 2.0 in a Corolla hatch. It steers the car back from crossing into the next lane, but it does not keep the car centered. It will ping pong from side to side a few times before beeping at me to put my hands back on the wheel. The adaptive cruise is neat but it turns off when the engine dips below 1K rpm in which ever gear I am in. It's good down to about 30mph in sixth.

The Prius system in the new ones actually centers the car in the lane; it feels much more precise.

My garage gave me a Sentra as a loaner a few years ago. I couldn't find the cruise control which was a problem on the highway. This was my first time with a CVT. I couldn't understand why everyone else was driving so slowly, looked down and saw I was going 85mph. I slowed to a less ticketable speed but then a moment later was back up to 80mph. I'm sure the cruise was easy to find if you know where it is.

The complexity and automaticity are real issues for safety. We all see people who check out while walking because they are hypnotized by their cell phones. Big screens and kinda/sorta self driving cars will almost certainly teach people to be less attentive.

I've made the argument before that I'm not interested in driver automation as described in SAE levels 2-4. It's just too in-between, and it seems like an ever-increasing portion of it is monitoring and nannying the human driver.

I'd rather just drive my self right up until the day it does it all.

LOL Give it up and upgrade to a modern car.

PS: That reminds me of people who used to tell me that they would never ever own a smartphone, until they got one a couple of years later and then they were telling me that the smartphones were the best thing in the world.

Not sure if everything here is accurate. I have TSS 2.0, and it has full-speed DRCC. Also, there is no P in TSS except in the first version.

Probably wasn’t clear but the 2.5 adds to the full speed DRCC the stop and go function.

I could add full speed DRCC to TSS-2.0 but certain Camry and RAV4 versions got low speed DRCC in the same model years. You had to get the Camry XLE or higher RAV4 trim levels to get full speed DRCC.

DRCC with LTA on my 2021 Prius Prime Limited with TSS 2.0 works in stop-and-go traffic. If the car comes to a complete stop, you have to tap the accelerate to resume, but that is a necessary safeguard to avoid an unintended outcome.

The other issue I have with Prius DRCC is the tendency to come to a full stop on an Interstate when the car in front of me is turning off the highway.

Hmm, that does not sound like DRCC.

It sounds like AEB. I am guessing that something like this would only happen if you are tailgating very close and AEB thinks you are about to crash.

Same as my 2018 Prime. The difference is that on the highway, it does that too while more sophisticated systems can auto restart if you came to a complete stop for a very short time. (Or in the case of my EV6 with HDA-II, it will resume automatically on a designated highway)

The DRCC was controlling the distance. When the leading car slows down and turns onto the ramp, the DRCC doesn't recognize that the car is no longer an obstacle. I have to step on the accelerator to avoid coming to a full stop (which would be quite dangerous).

I don't understand. When the car in front of you is gone, DRCC will accelerate to the set speed by itself. To me this sounds like AEB. Do you see the "BRAKE" message on the MID?
