I've had the car for over a month and the gas milage isn't as high as I expected, so I'm thinking I should get a few thing serviced since the dealership has no idea what has been done. My local dealer is suggesting that the EGR and TA's get cleaned, while replacing the PCV valve. I tested the hybrid battery before purchasing and it's at 74% capacity. Is there anything else I should be concerned about?

well if you get rid of those 17" wheels and go with 15", you'll get maybe 3 more mpg

I don't think I would necessarily agree with that, I had the exact same car five years ago with the same wheels, miles and tires and was getting 51 mpg

That’s a Toyota dealership? They advocated cleaning the EGR system? That would be refreshing. Did they quote on that? Intake manifold is part of the EGR system btw, should be included in the cleaning.

whats “TA’s”, maybe a misnomer? Maybe throttle body?

And what's your expected gas mileage what were you expecting Just curious I would just generally like to know and what are you actually getting this is my car I have a 2013 persona in black cherry It sits here in the driveway with an engine replacement about 8 or 10 months ago and it's rattling like hell almost similar to before it was replaced but not quite It's very tricky we've given up on the generation threes We have two of them here in the toilet We have four generation twos that run daily everyday without incident whether interiors relatively clean one generation two is a work vehicle I don't think we'll be looking forward to the two leader or any of the new ones coming out as they seem to be possibly problematic also so we have retreated to the known.

We have a couple gen 3 toilets. They save a lot of water, but don’t flush well

since this is my second 2013 Persona with essentially the same miles I was expecting at least 48 to 51 miles per gallon

yes, TA's = throttle body. Since my last Prius crapped out with a blown head gasket I've kind of developed a relationship with the service advisor. Right before it was diagnosed I spent like $600 doing the brakes and other stuff only to sell the car to one of their mechanics.

I'm really trying to avoid the same mistakes

Yeah that stuff is very subjective I've had two generation 3's and I've never seen any kind of 51 miles per gallon driving like a little old lady in town 48 49 was about it. On the generation 2 I saw 51 miles per gallon for the first time like 4 days ago after I swapped the battery that looks like it's brand new or recently bought for my old starting to fail green bean thingy that came with the car and that quickly turned to 47 very quickly before my drive was over which the 47 was the rated mileage for the car when it came off the assembly line as far as I understand it.

    I would be happy with
I would be happy with 47 or more, i'm just concerned since I don't have any service history and it's close to the 120k mark which is right about the time the spark plugs in other things need to be replaced

If you've done stuff like oil changes, you could make it through intake manifold and EGR cleaning. More info in first two links in my signature (on a phone turn it landscape to see signature).

120K is getting late in the day, but EGR cleaning is still worth doing. Around 150~200K is when the head gaskets typically blow, but a few have gone sooner.

There are a few preliminary things you can do, without the need to disable the car or remove a lot of stuff. If you're considering DIY'ing I can ramble on about that.

DIY is immensly cheaper, apart from a couple of pro-places (Tampa Hybrids and Hybrid Pit Stop in LA). There's likely a few more, but those two are the only ones mentioned here. Dealerships will typically brush you off, and if you insist, do only parts replacement, no cleaning. That's at least a grand for parts. DIY, I'd only replace the intake manifold gaskets, around $35.

Thank you, I'm in the Seattle area. I'm little worried that if I do the EGR and water pump I'll mess it up, but I don't want this one to die. My last Persona lasted to 216k miles and my step-son has a '10 Prius that is almost at 230k.
