2024 Prius prime SE front bumper and grill cost?

    Hi everyone.

My 2024 Prius Prime SE was involved in a minor fender bender today. Specifically, another car backed into the Prius, scratching/denting the driver side front bumper and cracking the lower grill.

The damage, at least to this point, seems limited to just the bumper and grill. I was afraid the sensors imbedded into the front bumper were damaged, but the car doesn’t throw any error messages when in Ready status. I’m sure the local Toyota dealership will test each component, but I’m optimistic that I avoided any major damage.

Is there any website I can use to view the MSRP of both parts? I’m going to get both replaced at a local Toyota dealer, but I’d like to know ahead of time (if possible) the cost of the parts themselves before committing to the repair.

    Thanks in advance!

The dealer should give you a written estimate of the cost, that you have to sign before he starts repair.

You're probably going to need at least a picture showing enough of the car so the parts counter guy will be able to find the pieces you're asking for prices on. Be prepared to offer up your VIN as well.
Slim pickins online for 2024 toyota anything, but especially Prime.
They are there, but fitment verification and categories have not been implemented publicly yet for Gen 5.

Hopefully, you have the other driver's insurance info so they or their insurance will cover the cost of repairs.

@Peter3232 what insurance have you got? Either the other guys or yours should cover this.

    Thanks all.

Yes, auto insurance is thankfully covering this (past my 1K USD deductible). So that is luckily not a concern.

I was just curious, ahead of time, about the cost of the two front bumper and lower grill themselves before labor. I’m going to call the local Toyota dealership this morning to schedule an appointment to have the Prius looked at. Hopefully it’s not too long of a wait for parts, since this will hopefully not require any electronics to be replaced…

    Official Toyota Parts Website link

Toyota Parts Overstock - linked to a Toyo dealership, but site is different than official one. It will sometimes have diagrams/pics that the official one won't have so you can visually confirm and cross reference part numbers.

Front bumper & grille. Bumper & components.

Link for front bumper from the overstock site. But be aware that there are options for bumpers with parking sensors and those without. I'm guessing there are brackets and holes in the bumper depending on the trim level of the vehicle. Dont assume the price you see there is correct - plan on paying MSRP and be happy if it's discounted. The shipping charges on that overstock site can get ridiculous and using the official toyo website local dealer pick-up is usually cheaper.

The parts desk people are good - find a dealership with a parts dept. (the official site will show you which dealerships around you have parts dept where you can pick up stuff rather than having it shipped). They know how to find parts quickly and can even print you a diagram when the website doesn't have one.

Body parts are NOT painted - the cost of paint matching could be as much as the bumper itself.

In my un-professional opinion unless your deductible is more than $1k, it might be best to file a claim so the correct parts are ordered and painted and all the sensors are tested and aligned.
Price of parts is going to be $300-400 (assuming bumper and grill only) + painting + alignment + labor.

**EDIT - looks like you replied to Mendel while I was typing my response. Nvm on the insurance statement.

@Gwyd The site is a good find and gives a general idea of what's in the front bumper area.
The kicker is that if you look at fitment on any of those parts they are for Prius and not necessarily Prime.
When trying to input Prime for selected vehicle on the page you linked to the latest year for Prius Prime is 2023 and after that input the page shows one item - the radiator shutter assy.

I added up the Prius Bumper Cover $202 and Prius Grille $280 - MSRP (not the discounted prices)
    I still can't find 2024 part #s
Thanks for given it your best. I'm glad someone else also looked for the parts.

If other party is found responsible, their insurance may pay your deductible?

(I’m in BC, Canada, and here there’s one primary auto insurer, highly regulated, so my perspective may be off compared to your situation.)

@vvillovv: I can't imaging a '24 part is going to be priced very differently - there wasn't a body style change, just some internals on the '24.

@mendel: yea, rules in the US are different. Unless you hire a lawyer, you're usually responsible for your own deductible no matter who is at fault. The responsible insurance company pays for the actual repairs.

Thank you for your thoughts and effort in locating the previously-provided website.

As it turns out, my auto insurance already provided an estimate for the repair. The estimate assumes that the entire front bumper, grill, parking sensors, and associated parts (absorber?) will be replaced. In addition to paint and labor, it looks like a total cost of $2100 USD.

The big challenge now will be getting the parts and scheduling the repair. I should receive a call tomorrow about part availability.

Yikes, that's higher than I'd have guessed - unless things are just that much more expensive in NY. Without pics, I don't know how damaged it was inside the bumper but like you, I wouldn't have thought all the sensors need to be replaced. As you have seen, the actual price of the bumper and grill are below $500 - we'll overestimate another $500 for sensors - so at least half the total cost is paint and labor. Body shops sure do make a lot of money!! I wouldn't drive away unless that paint is matched perfectly...

Keep us updated - I'm curious to know how long it takes to get parts.

That is correct; paint and labor is roughly half of the cost estimate. I informed the auto body manager that I’m willing to be flexible with the grill (the LE grill is all black, in contrast to the black+silver grill present on the SE, XLE, and XLE Limitied) for the sake of availability. Not sure if that will matter much.

I’m supposed to receive a call back from the auto body manager at some point this week (I hope). Like you, I do wonder about the wait for parts. As it stands, the auto body shop is booked out until May at the earliest. So if the parts aren’t available until then, I guess it’s ok.

I'd ask for the old parts back. It's one way you can keep somewhat track of exactly what was done during the repair and I'll bet those parts still have a value, Possibly making a potential buyer very happy.

I realize that it's not typical to ask for damaged / replaced parts be returned, especially since most are focused on convenience. But sometimes you just never know what you might find.

Yea with supply in short demand, someone else may find that the damage to your bumper is acceptable if theirs is far worse off.

Take it to a reputable local body shop, they will do it for much cheaper and usually have affiliation with Toyota so they know what they're doing. If I take a guess, it would probably cost somewhere between 1500-2000 but definitely under 2000. Cheers!

Unfortunately, it looks like it will be a wait for some parts…with no real sense of when those parts will become available.

But it’s a good idea to ask for the bumper back, though for a different reason I thought of. The bumper isn’t really badly damaged, so I think I can use it to test car detailing products on. It’s a selfish motive, but I remember wishing I had a panel or something like that in the past, when I was a bit more into car detailing.

Alrighty, just updating this thread now that there has been movement. It took ~4 months for all the parts to come in for the entire front bumper replacement. I’m scheduled to have all the work done in the next several weeks.

This is kind of a silly question, but does anyone think the 12V battery will be disconnected during this repair? I ask because I am uncertain if my user settings will be lost if the 12V battery is disconnected.

Interesting I’ve never paid a deductible when it’s the other person’s fault. The other person’s insurance pays the entire repair unless they are underinsured.

Just an update on this one. The parts finally came in after many months of waiting and I just picked up my 2024 Prius Prime today. After everything was said and done, total cost insurance paid out was about $3000 USD.

Everything seems mostly ok. The only thing that is. A bit odd is that the sensitivity of the front parking sensors seems less than before; while parking in my garage, the car needs to be much closer to things to trigger the sensor now than before the front bumper replacement (all the electronics were replaced too).

Does anyone know if the front parking sensor sensitivity is something that can be easily adjusted, either by me or the local Toyota service department?
