Hi all! I’m looking to replace the stock Limited 19” tires to 17” for slightly better fuel efficiency. I’ve been doing a bit of research and it’s one of those cases where as the more I dig in, the more confused I get (including this thread). Is it as straight forward as going from the stock 195/50R19 to 195/60R17 (one found in LE trim)? Or is there a more precise 17” equivalent to swap in? I’ve read about trying to keep the diameter similar for accurate odometer, speedometer, and MPG readouts from the car. I’m pretty much a newbie, so appreciate any advice and if someone has cracked this one yet. Thanks!

That'll be fine. No need to get overly technical. Tires wear out soon enough and you can try different sizes anyway. I don't know why people make tires into such a big deal
Big deal? Maybe not but size does matter. Going with an over all size that is different will affect your speedometer and odometer readings as they are calibrated to work with a specific over all circumference of a tire. This will also affect HV/EV mpg/e-mpg.
I have similar concerns. I don’t have the car yet but I’m being told that the XLE AWD is a heavier car and partly why it has the larger tires?? Plus if I were to switch from 19 to 17 inch tires it could interfere with the AWD system. Something about messing with the differentials and that this can’t be adjusted to accommodate for the smaller tire. Yes. I want the best gas mileage possible but I’m mostly concerned about these low profile tires and pot holes etc.
tire width remains the same with the swap. there is a 21.1% gain in sidewall albeit tire diameter is -1.9% smaller which is really fine. when your speedometer reads 60mph, the actual is closer to 58.9mph. it's fine.
Correct, there would be zero issues with the AWD differential. I belong to other auto forums and this issue comes up all the time. The consensus is if you're within 3% difference of the original diameter, you'll be fine. Keep in mind that a wider tire, say for example going from 195 width to 215 width would have some impact of your MPG but it would be barely noticeable. Have you tried the 195/60R17 on the AWD XLE? I just blew a tire today and the wait time for a new one is about 30 days! I asked the dealership about doing this switch, but they don't have any experience with the new Prius and don't know if it'll clear the brake calipers.
You should be fine. See the attached. Your speedometer will read 2% slower … and that’s assuming everything is perfectly calibrated to begin with.
I have a LTD FWD, which has the same size tires as the AWD XLE. I actually ended up going with a 205/65/16 and it fits (actually closer to spec and more tire selection). So, I would imagine the 17” would fit too.
I have a Prius 2023 LTD AWD, i installed aerodynamic mag 17 x 6.5J Fast EV01+ Titanium (Fast Part Number: FE01N(+)-1765-65TN+38C661) with 195/60R17 tire. It works really well and has 38 mm offset (Near Prius spec: 40 mm). I installed 66.1 mm to 60.1 mm hub ring and conical nuts with these wheels.
Just want to note for anyone curious - Looks like the next generation 2025 Camry LE retains the 205/65R16 tire size, which should help keep supply/options steady. Source: Zoomed in on YouTube videos of a few initial impressions that have popped up over the past few days lol.
