6-7 gallon capacity is normal in winter. 8-9 gallon capacity is normal in summer. That’s what the fuel bladder allows in my car.
That is interesting, thanks for sharing. A new to me gen 2 is becoming frustrating, goes 80 miles and blinks empty but only takes 2-3 gallons. Tried calibration and it won't take. My old gen2 is still going 200 miles between fills though. The new one sat for 6 months and the bladder may be the issue.
Could be that the fuel level sensor is faulty. I bet that if you check the sensor when the gauge started blinking, you would find it to be open circuit (very high resistance). Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
my 08 still gets 50 mpg and about 400 miles til blinking starts. Usually fills up (from blinking to full) with about $35-$38 and 8 gals. So I assume its about 1 gal reserve. I have pushed it only once and drove 25 mi after blinking and no issues lol
What is your typical daily drive distance, time and outdoor temperature? The first 5 minutes of driving, the car is essentially in warmup stage and typically gets ~25mpg. What is the MFD display showing for mpg? This is important for comparison. A 45mpg indication on the MFD, but 30 mpg calculated means you probably have a fuel leak somewhere. Have you checked wheel temperatures to see if a brake is rubbing? Are your tires low? I've seen a 6mpg difference between 32psi and 42psi. Is your 12v battery good? A bad 12v can load down the inverter and drop 2-3mpg. A failing brake actuator can pull 3-5mpg off also, due to all the cycling. The biggest common mpg killers? Crappy weather, short trips, low tire pressures, poor driving habits, running the snot out of the HVAC. My current Gen 2 stable: 2007 daily driver (147k miles--52.5mpg right now, even with a brake actuator that cycles every 7 seconds) 2007 Touring model (220k miles)---45mpg because my son has been driving it, I get around 51 in it. This is the one that has a HV battery built with modules manufactured in 2003. The car is awesome, and is my favorite. 2006 back-up car (355k miles) ~40 mpg because it's my work truck. I drive it like I stole it and do a lot of short 5-10 minute trips with it. It's a beast, in a good way. 2008 (180k miles) ~45mpg but it's been parked for a few months now 2009 Touring (175kish) bought with bad engine and haven't fixed it yet....
You have done a great job sharing the info and at this point your numbers seem to be accurate. I would type at this point there are other issues with the car. Driving habits can affect it but since you have gotten good mileage out of the porsche I am thinking it is not you. A test of both batteries, and peek at one of the spark plugs may be in order.
Mine doesn't flash when it gets down to one bar. Does yours flash all the time? Does the odometer also flash? If so you have this problem. Double flash gas gauge on combo meter? | PriusChat
if you mean by “all the time” that it flashes when it has more than one bar then no, it doesn’t. It only when there is one bar on reserve. and no the odometer does not flash at all.
have no idea what half that means…wish i had known this car had so many variables that could go wrong. what a nightmare. 2005 Prius for sale…runs great!!
You can buy mine, 38 on winter gas and over 40 on summer. $3000 or 2800 if I get the 911 for a weekend!
